Love Is Addiction/Pyaar Lat Hai

I wrote this poem in English and a friend helped translate it into Hindi (I like it better in Hindi). But here are the two versions.

What is love but one soul in two bodies?
What is a sweet nothing but a drug?
One compliment gives a high.
One sweet word of love causes addiction.
And what is addiction but love of a drug?

Pyaar kya hai par do badan mein ek atma?
Pyaar ka izhar kya hai par ek nasha?
Tareef mein ek shabd asaman pe pahuncha deta hai.
Pyaar ke ek meethe bol se lat lag jati hai.
Aur kya hai par nashe se pyaar?

Gimme he english version any day. The Hindi translation is way too literal and probably because of that, does not touch the beautiful. I would rather the same theme be dealt with but with more freedom.

 

thanks. i wouldn't really know how accurate the hindi one is. If I knew hindi fluently, I could probably express better my point in the poem. But I gave an Indian friend my poem and asked him to translate it.

Great piece. (In both languages) I don't speak Hindi, but I bet it would sound really pretty read aloud. I love the language.
