Hey, I'm an ultra-liberal moving to Tok, Alaska in the spring (It's cheaper than preppy CT, more rural than urban/suburban CT, and certain things are legal there that aren't here. :-D) I have been getting dire warnings from everyone from my sister to my boss that since AK is a "red state", my boyfriend and I will be fish out of water...Is this true? I'm not trying to imply that everyone in AK is a conservative, and it won't stop us from going one way or another (We love AK, from what we know of it.)...I just want to be prepared for the worst. :-\
there are many 'red' states, as long as u dont vote or care who wins or is in control, youll be fine. its not like only the 'red' states are police states.
While Tok is kinda religious most of the state is really socially liberal. Yeah our state votes Republican mainly because of gun rights, but I think you will find many of similar mind even if they are confused and vote conservative. I'm north of Fairbanks and have no problem finding plenty of cool folks.
Thanks for the reassurance, guys..I was pretty sure everyone was freaked out for nothing...Considering the atmosphere and general attitude around here (I've lived through two small towns and one larger city in CT) I don't think we have much to worry about. I'm looking forward to it so much...From what I've seen it's a beautiful place to live...and housing is so much less expensive than here.
