Why are you (am I) a Christian? Who qualifies?

This is my first stab at the first topic in the agenda that I outlined in a previous post. I said it there, but I'll say it again to avoid confusion for folks not looking for it under the "Discussion Agendas" topic. I'm a Christian because I think that Jesus was a good hippie and that some of the core beliefs and principles that I associate with him are cool and ones I want to live my life by: peace, love, understanding, compassion, forgiveness, humility, recognition of all humans as brothers and sisters and active concern and help for the poor, outcasts and dregs of society. I know Christians who somehow have views on this that are 180 degrees different from mine, and who certainly have more media attention--e.g., Pat Robertson or the Rev. Phelps of the Westboro Baptists who pickets funerals because "God hates fags." I can only follow my conscience and the Bible as I understand it. A lot of the stuff that's recited in the Apostles' and Nicene creeds I'm not sure I believe, at least in a literal sense: the resurrection of the body, virgin birth, etc. Am I a Christian? Am I going to hell?

 

I am a Christian because I have felt the Divine Love of God
as taught by Jesus
and through meditation have felt the presence of the Christ
Conciousness that Jesus tells us is the way to liberation.

Age doesn't necessarily impart wisdom...you can be old and brick-stupid. I know this from personal experience, being 10+ yrs ahead of you on the road to death.

Quit insulting someone who's asking intelligent questions, and go watch cartoons.

 

I believe I am a Christian because I believe in Christ as the son of God, and I believe I have attained salvation because I accepted the grace of the gift of Jesus' blood shed on the cross, on which he took my place for the punishment of my sins.

 

i am a christian, because i have had short bursts of light in my life where i have understood how christ felt on the cross. i've felt the kind of love he felt for everyone all the time. i've loved like christ loved, and it's been SO beautiful, it's felt like the highest truth there is. it's what i strive to live as every second of the day, but i don't know how well i'm actually doing... so i accept jesus as the highest and purest example of what i'm trying to attain.

i see the bible as a lot more metaphorical and allegorical than i think most christians do, and i interpret it in a different way. but when you feel truth and love and light inside you, and when you experience it in action... that's the end of all the different means.

 

I was a raised a Christian, but at some point you realize there IS another level beyond what the "church" is preaching. I don't think it's hidden, it's just unknown to them.

That other level is not to remain a Christian, but to become a Christ yourself.

That is what truly qualifies a Christian, a person who doesn't imitate Jesus, but becomes like him in spirit. Religion just imitates without the deeper understanding of the metaphysical nature of Jesus' message.

i AM a christian but GOD is my religion.

i am a christian because:
-god is the source of my every inspiration.
-i believe that it is not only a self bettering religion but also a religion that ALSO focuses on bettering the worlds around you.
-the beliefs of christianity are clear and concise
-the bible reads to me tunes of gods melodic grace.
-it has proven to be for ME..the antidote.
-it has been the source of my lasting perpetual happiness
-i am drug FREE. never thought id be..due to the lord and his teachings.

i could go on literally for years
eternities.centuries.decades.lifetimes.
yet my fingers are tiring out and my eyes are caving into bedtime.

I am a christian because Jesus died for me. God loves people unconditionally and although i am a sinner, i eventually obtained salvation. =)

 

I am a Christ without the "ian" because that's how I'm sent from beyond though born to be human like you to blend in and raise the truth up fully to shut to the door on earth. I am a Christ on earth and above me is the Christ in heaven. Christ on earth is the throne of the Son of man which is all of mankind. The Son has a devil which will be dealt with in hell fire. Many astral projections shall come in my name to decieve many.

Jesus himself said that there would be people calling themselves Christians and yet he would tell him get away from me you workers of lawlessness but those doing the will of God he would call his brothers. How do we know what the will of God is? The Bible is God's word and if it can't be shown to you and proven from God's word then it's not God’s will.

As for if you are a Christian, it's not for me to say, that's up to God and Christ but from your post I'd say you've got a good start. But if you want to polish it up, Read the Bible.

As for Hell that's merely the common grave of mankind and nothing to be afraid of, just make sure that you've put yourself in line for the resurrection and living forever on the paradise Earth.
