    Hi people,

Have recently decided I would really like to get dreads, but i'm concerned about my appearance for the transition period before they take shape.

Don't get me wrong i'm a shaggy haired scruffy looking guy (see pic), its just i'm worried about what my boss will say (I have to give a couple of presentations to an audience of chemistry academics over the next 2 months and they can be quite discerning about appearance).

For this reason i thought it might be best to go to a local hairdresser's that specializes in dreads (i know this probably isn't a popular choice among this community, but i think it would be best for my situation).

Does anyone have any pics of their dreads immediately after having them backcombed by a hairdresser so i can have an idea of what to expect? or do you think i should leave it for 2 months (after my presentations) and get it done then?

any thoughts, comments would be much appreciated :)

    peace

    don't go get them done...

just tie your hair back at work
    and do your dreads naturally.

maybe you should wait a few months:) but hopefully nothing will come up after that. i backcombed mine myself, the first month they looked awesome but the 2nd they were kinda messy. but you can't go by other people; everyone is different and dreads are unpredictable. and dont be poppin somas before your presentations haha!

mine werent done at a salon, they were done in my bedroom by a friend of mine, but the first two pics are what they looked like straight after being backcombed

I think you have the perfect hair for going natural. They will knot up nice and quick.

You can start them naturally, my hair looked even better with a couple knots after, dont ever get them done you'll regret it after and maybe it will look worse then you think, natural is awesome even from the beggining.

If you dont like how its starting to look put a wool hat when you can it'll make them lay down and control a bit how it looks.

Just please dont make them in a salon.

llok asround there were a few threads about salon dreads..they were absolurely gross and every 1 of em took em out riyght after only to go natural

like everyoune said just stop combiung
    usde dr bronners
when u need to look neat pull em back into a pony tail
    or wear a hat
    do not even think salon

salonbs scam u they gunk u up charging 450 then say come back every 2 weeks for maintanance charging 100 or so each rtimer week after week adding more wa=x doing more dammage and taking u farther and farther from real dreads..then when u are sick of the sticky messand give up they charge u again to undo what they did
they are a business in business to keep u enlaved to them
dont fall for it u never ever ever need to spens 1 cvent in a salon again

    think a momment
dreads set u free from salons forever
    so
would you expect them to help u become free/

do u think theyd do a good job at \helpmg u never need them again?
or do u think they will do all they can to keep u comming back and charge u all they can while they can

    450 is insane
    dreads become dreads for free

i sure do. i backcombed, and didn't use any rubberbands or anything at first. later i did, but that was a mistake. but i had a job that kinda cared about my appearance a lot, but they didn't have a problem with it. they'll be poofy for a bit, but if you tie them back they'll look just fine. :)

this is on the 3rd day, i hadn't washed yet
    [IMG]

this one was the 1st day. they flatten a lot after you sleep on them, especially if you wear a hat or do rag or something.

this one is about 2 weeks later.

it is a freaky pic. i debated whether or not to post, because i hate the way i looked that day, lol. none of the pictures turned out right. but it's a decent representation of my new dreads, so there ya go. i'm trying to get over my vanity, lol!

i tend to have really big pupils, regardless of whether or not i've done any substances... i think it's because i'm so goddamn nearsighted.

anywho... strange picture, but baby dreaddies all the same. :D
