I believe it's a lifestyle, but there is some people out there that do it as a fashion or because it's the cool thing to do

    'religion'

to me.. 'religion' is like another for 'life style' - belief system
    .. so i agree with 'erzebet1961'

    ummm.
i suppose with anything, a lot of people make it into a 'trend'
but a true hippie is yeah, a lifestyle for sure.

you can separate a 'hippie' from a 'trend hippie' just by having a conversation with them.. you'll be able to feel it in their body language, their smile, their eyes, the way they express themselves.. yada yada!

A belief that lends itself to a lifestyle because a certain lifestyle is living the belief, is fighting for the belief in a manner your beliefs allow, peaceful fighting or peaceful sitins etc.

Living the lifestyle doesnt make you a hippie. It makes you a hippie wannabe. Believing the beliefs make you a hippie, whether you live the lifestyle or simply espouse the belief to others.

Back in the day the lifestyle was a way of being seen and hopefully joined by others. The tiedies and flowers made you visible, but anyone can wear tiedies so wearing them does not make you a hippie.

And too, tiedie was a marker for only one sect of hippie. There were many other groups who fought from withing the system to right the wrongs of the man.

Hippie was a belief , a belief in change for the better, a change without war, without the man owning you. Freedom, love, peace, it is a belief, not a shirt you throw on.

Personally, I think it is a state of mind and lifestyle.

Fashions are so superficial I think and one dimensional. I think for some it has become the latest hip trend ( pardon the dreadful pun ) but their beliefs and actions are far from being enviromentally friendly.

I believe that it's a lifestyle. I certainly don't look like a hippie but in my heart, I am very hippie. I used to hate that part of myself. I'm trying to grow to love it. Society shames hippies though from what I've felt and it's hard to accept sometimes. I'm learning that I have to be myself or I'm cheating myself out of life.
