Occationally you run into planets in a birth chart that have no major aspects to any other planet. I personally think that that planet can be a major player in interpreting a chart; especially if it is the chart ruler. I think they show untigrated personallity traits.
Or alternately, that planet's character affects the matters of the house it's in and doesn't get modified by another planet. It neither gets help nor hindrance. For instance, if the Sun is in the 10th, depending on the sign it's in, means your reputation will dominate your career. If the Sun is weak, your reputation will harm your career, and if it's strong will help it. Since there wouldn't be any aspects, your reputation will be the deciding factor in your career without any modification. Just an example.
My birthdate is 10/8/56, just in case you want to look it up and see if what I will say/ask is accurate. (2:30AM, Atlanta GA) My sun, in the 2nd house, is unaspected Except for an inconjunct with Mars and semisquares with Saturn and Pluto. It has been said to me (more than once that my sun is unaspected. Yet, it seems it is quite aspected, only in a Not Easy way. As is reflected in many areas of life. Could you tell me anthing, please, in coping, managing, etc. iin the most effective way? any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm showing your Sun is sextile the Moon. Mercury is in your 2nd as well. It's dignified by rulership, so your finances are relatively strong. Mercury is sextile Saturn in the 4th also dignified but less so. Did you receive an inheritance from your father? The Sun in this case is harming matters. The Sun is in its sign of fall, so it's very weak. There appears to be some personal conflict with money. The Sun rules your ascendant and the 9th by exaltation. This conflict, outside of a personal conflict (maybe you spend too much), is connected with travel or religion. Emotionally you are lost regarding money. You want to use it for home/family, but are not as successful as you would like. I know it's vague, but that's my 30 second version.
Using tropical houses and the Placidus system I see that your sun is indeed unaspected, and in the third house. Your ASC is in Leo which makes your sun the chart ruler. You may feel very unsuccesful and unfullfilled in your life. You dwell on mental difficulties and rationalize life as the third house rules your mind and thinking. You have a liberal slant to life with an emphasis on seeking what is beautiful. You may find that you believe your thoughts are very balanced and beautiful but cannot connect this to any thing due to the unaspected nature of your sun. What really jumps out at me in your chart is Pluto on the Asc. You have a lot of darkness and pain inside. Your rebellious nature can cause you to walk around with a serious chip on your shoulder. You may look very dark and intense and people may feel uncomfortable around you at times. There is lots to look at so I'll leave it at that. Try to rise above your personal demons. Your homelife may have been austere or even abusive. Saturn is in your fourth house of homelife. It is squared Pluto in your first. Saturn sextile Mercury adds a serious and disciplined mind. Your father may have been very domoneering. You may still be very hurt and angry at him. It could also be your mom was a source of pain in your early life. You may feel disconnected from brothers or sisters, like they don't understand you. Uranus in 12th. You may feel it difficult to express your unique style. You can be stubborn and don't do well with change. Lots of fixed placements. Your a dreamer and an idealist; Neptune in the 3rd. You are definately able to take care of yourself. You may suffor from lonliness. There may be strife in your close personal relationships; Mars in the 7th. You may find it hard to feel love or be loved; Venus squared the moon. Overall you are a relationship oriented person. You seek and need love. Don't push other people away. One good thing is you are grounded by a number of earth placements. Are you a banker or a stock broker? It seems you are open to a wide variety of carreers. Possible anger related problems may arise.
Trekker - what an Excellent analyst you are! Yes, I use the Placidus Houses, Tropical Zodiac - and you missed on Nothing. FYI - My father died before I was 5 yrs old, and Mommy Dearest (tounge in cheek) was seemingly easily both mother, father and disciplinarian. I truly feel this time around I have been given the opportunity to Clear All Karmic debts I have Ever incured - and it ain' t easy! About the lonliness - that is so a part of me now, I can't imagine myself without this dark companion. Again, thanks. An honestly read chart (for me) has been impossible to find.
I'm seeing something very different. I'm showing Lynn's Sun at 14*59' Libra, and her Moon at 6*12' Sagittarius. If that's correct, that's a sextile aspect. The Sun has a 15 degree orb and the Moon has a 12 degree orb. The moiety between them is 13*30' orb, so it counts as a sextile. In fact it's an applying sextile. Lynn's Sun IS aspected unless the above positions are incorrect.
For a sextile, I won't go farther than 5, maybe 6 degrees orb; even if it is applying between the sun and moon. Some people would say 3 or 4 degrees orb.
Not to be picky, but are the "minor" aspects of quincunx and semisquares not really counted ? For not necessarily just these but also counting semisextiles, I seem to have more "minor" aspects than major. Perhaps just to make my life extra special challenging, perhaps? lol
"Minor" aspects don't count when deciding if a planet is unaspected. I look on the "minor" aspects when there is a dirth of "major" aspects to go with. the "minor" aspects add grit. A yod which is two quincunxes to a planet and a sextile between each is very important though. You don't have a yod, but you do have a bucket shaped chart with Mars as the handle. This puts a focus on Mars. Anger can be a sticking point with you. I wouldn't give too much focus on semi sextiles or semi squares. You do have more minor aspects than major though. When Mars is transited life is going to become interesting.
Ahhh that's another difference in the traditional system. Different planets have different orbs. The Sun and Moon have the largest: Saturn - 9 degrees Juptiter - 9 degrees Mars - 8 degrees Sun - 15 degrees Venus - 7 degrees Mercury - 7 degrees Moon - 12 degrees So if you start adding outer planets, asteroids, and other aspects, then yeah you'd have a problem using this. You'd always have a zillion aspects. If you only use 7 planets, then you don't have that issue. In fact that's why Alan Leo developed the orbs for aspects. So Lynn, in modern astrology, the Sun is NOT aspected, in traditional astroloy, it IS aspected. Your Sun only has one aspect though.
Thanks, all of you for great info. concerning orbs, I have gone by Ursula Lewis's and don't know how it compares to Leo's. Most of my aspects are so close, the orbs are small. Since I am not a whiny baby, I won't go into (probably boring) details - but suffice it to say I was not surprised when I began studying astrology to find that many of my "challenges" appeared fated. A libra fated to be alone. How screwed is that? lol
Traditionally, your loneliness would be your Saturn in your 4th. Saturn (amongst other things) is loneliness, and the 4th is home and family. The reason why I mentioned your father is because since your chart is nocturnal, your father is represented by Saturn. The 4th also deals with inheritance and father. Saturn is conjunct the North Node, which traditionally will increase the malefic aspects of Saturn, so loneliness is increased. This is why one needs to consult with a client sometimes - to narrow down the list.
I'm going to sound a bit odd (especially since I'm new to this page and this thread alone made me interested), but I've been told that my sun were lacking any Ptolemaic aspects (conjunctions, oppositions, squares, trines and sextiles). I always knew it and knew that it made a great impact on your horoscope, but (ironically) I haven't thought about it until tonight. I'm not very familiar with the english terms since my first language is swedish, so you'll have to be patient with me. My sun have two minor aspects, the quincunx and semi sextile, but after all I've read they're too weak to make a planet count for as aspected. Well, anyway... I wanted to know a little bit more about my unaspected sun in relation to myself. Maybe this is because of this influence, or maybe it's because of my Mars in the eight house, haha. The only thing I've actually read about an unaspected sun is that it causes mentally instability, a need for attention, selfishness and so on. What I've read about unaspected planets in general is that you're unaware of this behaviour, and that it leads to a yearning for something you can't describe. But the thing I want to know is how my unaspected sun in the third house in the sagittaurius is affecting me! I can't put general facts about this subject in connection with myself, my horoscope or anything, because it's: 1. Far too difficult since I've taught myself everything I know about astrology, with people around me that know less than I do; and 2. It's a blind spot to me. So, if anybody would like to make a short analysis of my horoscope when it comes to the unaspected sun I would be extremly grateful, because I feel far too subjective to make anything of it myself. My birth data is December 16th, 1990, 01.27 (00.27 universal time, 6.52.27 siderian) in Gothenburg, Sweden. I hope that all my astrological terms and expressions are correct, otherwise; just ask me about the word and I'll explain what I mean.
There's going to be a difference between modern and traditional astrology. The reason for this is that in traditional, each planet has an orb of influence. Each planet's orb is a different radius. In modern, the orbs are replaced by adding orbs to aspects. This was done because modern astrology added several aspects, and if you use the traditional orbs, the chart becomes a mess of aspects. Since I use only traditional techniques, I'll come from that direction. In a traditional chart, your Sun DOES have aspects. In fact it's conjunct Venus and the Moon and is trine Jupiter and is sextile your Part of Fortune. Your Sun is in the 3rd house and is peregrine. This means it is weak. However, since it is in a favorable aspect to the two benefics, it's being helped, so the weakness is mitigated somewhat. The ruler of your chart is actually Saturn (again traditional techniques). In fact usually Saturn is a malefic, but since it's so strong in your chart, it's acting as an "accidental benefic". It looks like it signifies your father here as well as your home and children and entertainment. Your father was a strong and favorable influence, and you will have a stable homelife, though marked with sadness. You will also benefit somewhat from a partner's income - either romantic or busines. However since Mars is in Venus' sign, it'll likely be romantic. You won't be rich from this, but you will still benefit. You're a very down-to-earth individual, and see justice and equality, though you are rarely satisfied in this area. You are primarily of a melancholic temperament which is actually echoed by your chart ruler being Saturn. This is a sad and brooding person who is a perfectionist. Many people with this temperament tend to be artistic. Venus rules your rising sign, so this would make sense. As to your Sun, it's in your 3rd house (siblings, short journeys, neighbors) and rules your 11th house (friends and groups). Jupiter is in the 11th and is relatively strong but is retrograde. You make many good friends but lose them. You have a lot happening with siblings and neighbors. I'm too lazy now to pick this apart, but you benefit greatly from this, and with Mercury in the 3rd, it looks like lots of local travel as well. This year (birthday to birthday) is a 6th house year. You've been dealing a lot with co-workers which has actually been pretty good. After your birthday this year, you'll move into a 7th house year which will be dealing with relationships both romantic and business. The last 8 years or so haven't been pleasant. Since 1999 you have been in a Saturn period, so you've felt restricted and unhappy with homelife. This will change around your birthday of 2010 when you move into a Jupiter period for a few years. That will be a particularly pleasant period with a lot of friends. This is all very general and quickly looked at mind you.
Thanks for the analysis. Some things does make sense, but some doesn't. The part about my father and me having a melancholic temper isn't true (I'm more a mix of sanguin and choleric), but on the other hand there were true things as well, such as the thing about the Saturn period I've been going through. You'll have to excuse that I sound ungrateful, but I still want to know a bit more about the modern astrology's interpretation of this unaspected thingy. I'm used to modern astrology, but on the other hand I didn't even know that there actually is an old form of astrology that is still being practised. (edit: wrong tempus)
That's cool. I will say the modern and traditional methods for figuring out temperament are entirely different. The modern method adds up the signs that all the planets are in. The traditional method only considers your ascendant and any planet aspecting it. That's why I mentioned melancholic.
