How do you make every-day friends? How do you meet people with whom you have similar interests in movies or music?
    School? Work?
You need a way of meeting new people. Making new friends.

Do you have gay friends? One of the reasons we call it the Gay Community is because we all know each other (in our respective towns). So if you get your foot in the door by making friends with some gay people, and if you always strive to be a nice person, then they'll introduce you to their friends- who will happen to be gay. And so on.

But this will take a change in behavior on your part too. You'll need to be social and friendly and if they invite you out with them to a bar or something, you need to go and try to not feel awkward. (You can get used to going to bars by the way.)

If you meet people who are dicks then just stop being friends with them. Dickish people have dickish friends so they'll be no value to you anyway.

About you always feeling awkward around people you like, try to treat them as if you all are straight and you are just friends. I can't keep you from feeling awkward but you can keep from showing it by copying the actions you see of normal friends. Don't let yourself become overcome with excitement. Act as if you are just normal friends. EXCEPT- if you are interested, you need to show it with signals or else he might not understand that you like him. This could be a goodbye hug that lasts longer than normal (if not many people are around) or saying that he is cute in an innocent way like in a restaurant: "What do you mean? You are really cute. Just smile at the waitress and maybe we'll get some free pie." Then smile and laugh a little bit. If he likes you too then he'll pick up on whatever signals you can come up with and hopefully it goes somewhere from there.

I'm 23 too and I'm looking for a relationship and this is all I do and it works wonderfully!

I feel ya. The only gay friend I have is my best friend, and she's a girl. There's a guy at my school that I've been told had sex with a guy and has that gay/bi vibe, but I don't have the balls to ask him.
