this weekend i was so overwhelmed with a mood to just get down to some cajun'y, or bluegrassy music. stuff that REALLY picks up and you cant help but dance around to? does anyone have any fantastic bands that might help be buy some music? does anyone have any SPECIFIC songs that they sugguest i download? thanks so much =)
If you are into bluegrass, then i would recommend checking out String Cheese Incident. Some songs include Outside Inside, 100 Years Flood, Restless Wind. You can download their shows for free from http://www.archive.org.
String cheese is cool, but they certainly aren't much a bluegrass band anymore these days - they're more house-grass. Yonder Mountain String Band, also available off of archive.org is more traditional foot-stompin bluegrass.
check out this vagabond jub band. go to wonton wonderland and click on the sour mash hug band live blip you can get an itty bitty taste of their vibe. they fukkin rock
This is true. I was referring to pre 2000 for their true bluegrass sound. House-grass? heh That is an interesting description of their music.
I don't believe in dancin to bluegrass music after i saw a morbidly obese woman and her son dancin at a bluegrass festival, that image is still in my mind 3 years later.
The Corb Lund Band rules, i saw them for the city i live by's centenial and it like bluesy/jazzy/country/bluegrass......its awesome....Corb Lund Band
String Cheese is a good band, but they're not a bluegrass band. Everytime I saw them, less than half of the show was bluegrass related. If you want some current bluegrass sounds, I would go for Yonder Mountain String band. I just saw them last night at the Showbox in Seattle and they had the crowd going insane! These guys can get into a bluegrass jam lasting for a good hour without a break! Definitely try to get some Yonder Mountain live tracks, especially ones from the String Summit. They usually bring up a lot of bluegrass greats during the Summit. 2003 had them jamming with Old and In The Grey, which of course had my man, David "Dawg" Grisman as well as Vassar Clemens. Then ya have Darol Anger on fiddle. 2004 had them jamming with Anger, Del McCourey, Brittany Haas, Snake Oil Medicine Show, and Danny Barnes. Definitely the best footstomping bluegrass I've ever seen live. If ya want older, go with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. I'd download Foggy Mountain Breakdown and see how you like it from there.
old time bluegrass is good sometime... check out earl and scruggs, they got some good n fast banjo tunes that rock er should i say bluegrass?
yea thats the song, foggy mountain breakdown the grateful dead does a good version of bluegrass breakdown as well
I play stuff like that at festivals... there's this band I play with every year that has music like that. Unfortunately, they used to have a website but have taken it down... so, the only place you can get a CD is at festivals they play at.
H.R. Funk N' Puff - Songs From The Electric Greenwood http://www.funknpuff.com/ This guy does some foot stomping Bluegrassy psychedelic dance music
Alison Krauss & Union Station (not really footstomping, but some very high-end bluegrass). Nickelcreek And have you ever heard the Russian bluegrass band Behring Strait (they are amazing).
"Newgrass" is all I can tell ya, its a crazy genre of insanely difficult bluegrass. The Pizza Tapes and Shady Grove (Jerry Garcia, Tony Rice, David Grisman) has got some good stuff. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't The Grateful Dead start out as a bluegrass band? I know Jerry picked a banjo long before he did a guitar.
Aaah... a band I played with was talking about Nickelcreek and I somehow got them mixed up with Nickelback and I said I didn't like them and went on endlessly about their negative points...then we were both like "What are you talking about?!?!?"...
i´m usually not really *the expert* on this kind of music, but if i´m asked to make a recommendation, then you should DEFINITELY check out a great band called HAYSEED DIXIE i had the chance to meet them on my travels this year...i was living with this guy in edinburgh who worked in a biker pub and he also happened to be their driver for their scottish tour (we had such a laugh..i´d never been on tour before, y´know ) anywayz, they started off doing ac/dc covers hillbilly style, hence also the name..i think they´ve made one album full of ac/dc covers and another one consisting only of kiss covers basically you an picture it as being rock´n´roll being played on traditional instruments (banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, bass) they also have this great alter-ego band, the KEROSENE BROTHERS - i only say one word - *rockgrass* very unusual stuff - "That Lost Highway of Hank Williams and that Highway To Hell are the same damn road, Brothers and Sisters!" songs about drinking, cheating, killing & hell :X also watch out for live shows...they´re the BEST www.hayseed-dixie.com www.kerosenebrothers.com
Barefoot Manner, though primarily a "regional" band in the Southeast at this point, is EXACTLY what you are asking about. Barefoot blends this awesome mix of late night psychedelic rock with early Sunday morning foot-stomping bluegrass to create an exquisite medley that is all their own. Check out www.barefootmanner.com for tour dates, and if they ever come near your town, drive to see them... The boys bring me jubilation, and I can not stop dancing when I'm listening to the boys play. They are a five piece band...Banjo, Mandolin, Acoustic "Electric" Guitar, Bass, and Drums/Washboard... The Barefoot Manner men are incredible... Their shows are also available on www.archive.org Look for the 7/23/04 HomeGrown Music show, any of the shows from 9/10/04 - 9/12/04 timeframe (their little music festival called Mannerland occurred on these three days), or pretty much any of their shows... Barefoot Manner brings me joy like no one else... And after seeing your requirements, I think you will agree with me...
