my little brother had a dunce cap put on him by his resources teacher because he had to go to the bathroom. she was fired and sued.
the school district settled. it was a class action suit. my mom didn't participate, however, she did get money from the district to put dalzell into sylvan. he went form a second grade reading level to a seveth grade level in 3 months. that bitch had him for 4 years and never got beyond cat, hat, mat. fucking asshat.
it was AMAZING. dalzell just graduated and is off to college, when that moron of a teacher he had basically told my mother to put him on ritalin and take him to a school for special needs children. THREE MONTHS. no, he didn't graduate an honor roll kid, but he did very well, considering four wasted years with a cold blooded, hateful monster of a teacher.
the teaching method definately has to match the child. That's why I dig the arts based way of teaching so much. Integrating all of the arts into learning just makes so much sense and teaches them how to learn more than just hard cold facts that mean nothing to them.
that's why i like kai's school. they don't actually spend much time sitting, and each class keeps their teacher for two years so that the teacher can get to know the learning style of each child. kai's already spent 6 weeks each on egypt, ancient rome, australia, africa, ancient greece. since then they've been studying prehistoric europe, cava paintings, things like that. in music class the make instruments like didgeridoos and drums. in drama they act out the ancient stories and myths, they tie in their science learning and experiments into the unit they're studying. like while they were studying europe, they were discussing the difference between needs and wants, the heirarchy of needs, survival skills, etc. it's really fun for them and they learn a lot.
of you really want to put a hitch in the little motherfu.... er.... Angels get-along I'd suggest each time you see them copying, make them start over on a different version of the test. and let them know they aren't getting any more time to complete it than anyone else. let them fail themselves.
