my daughter's school is offering a forensic science class

for after school enrichment programs. so, in addition to all the music, drama, painting and multi-media art classes, there's crime scene investigation, witht he final being a mock crime scene. i think, eventually, i'll put kai in the cooking healthy class.

 

Honestly, I think collecting blood samples may be a little too macabre for elementary students.

it sounds fun. it's for the middle school students, and the kids seem to like it quite a bit.

that sounds cool. not what i'd want to do, but it does give those who are interested an option. cooking sounds fun too. more schools should have options like this

 

it's their oasis after school program. it's pretty cheap, but for you have to pay for all the supplies they use and that gets expensive.

yeah, it's kindergarten through 8th. it's a mosaica school. you can google it. it's pretty freaking awesome.

 

Its nice when schools offer extensive after school programs, helps keep the kids off of the streets.

 

do you guys have to pay for it or since its a charter school, it is free?

My kid goes to an Arts Based school. I love love love it. But it ends at 5th grade with no art based education for the middle years....then they have high school for arts here as well.

Sylvi, the older kid, made the transition to traditional school just fine though. I was worried about it. I do hope they come up with middle school, like they are attempting to do, before Arianna finishes fifth grade.

 

We dont "pay tuition" But we do spend mad loot on it. We are asked to pay in volunteer hours.

 

Oh believe me. Me too. I volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday morning for about an hour. But I adore being in the class room with them, it makes me really happy.

Plus there are no buses for her school...so I have to drop her off and pick her up every day.

 

yup. us, too. we each have to give 2 hours of time per month. it doesn't matter which parent does it, so since dave works i can do more time. i was volunteering in the cafeteria, since joey can go with me. but i just can't afford the gas right now. once dave starts dropping kai off at school in the mornings, i can start up again.

 

3 hours a day driving gets quite expensive
