huge commune in austraila? please help!

okay so i was at a festival a couple of weeks ago and met this kid there that was telling me about a huge commune in austraila. he said there was a music festival there at one point, and after it was over, a bunch of people stayed and started living there. he said since then it has been growing and growing.... anyone is welcome as long as they contribute. does anyone know what place he was talking about? i have been trying to look it up but am obviously not getting far without the name or location of this place. can anyone help me out?

Nah it's Nimbin .... in NSW. If I'm right, the festival took place in 1976 and the people just never left. It's not far from Byron Bay and there are tours from Byron. Sounds like you need to check out confest too Confest rocks. http://www.dte.org.au/NextFest.html

 

i've always given nimbin a wide birth

not my scene, i've always found it really sad that people could dedicate their life to just getting wasted and eeking out a subsistence lifestyle on the back of drugs. thats just their bag i suppose.
