how much does the Iraq War remind you of Vietman?

i thought this would be a interesting subject due to the massdisagrement, lying government, and big protests of things like abortion, gay rights, women rights, the war, the environmnet,etc.

We're pretty much the same people, suffering the same pathos within our collective psyche.


As a people, we suffer the same psychotic delusions of our moral superiority.

We continue to suffer the same psychotic denials of other people's pain and suffering, and the denial that other people possess the same value for life.

We have spent our entire lives believing that pain and suffering are the natural state of affairs for the masses of brown and black people of the world, and that for them life is cheap.

In our collective psychotic state we have used our mental delusions and denials to justify not only this war, not only Vietnam, but the entire psychotic history of Global Manifest Destiny since we aliens first justified our invation in 1492.

Whether it's the Gulf of Tonkin lie, or the WMD lie;
Whether it's Franco-American Post-Colonial racism in Vietnam, or the Anglo-American Post-Colonial racism in Iraq;
Whether it's Slant-head Gooks, or Rag-head Sand-niggers;
Our world view has changed little since Vietnam.

And what little change has occured has been for the worse.

Where as the Vietnam generation still possessed a thin thread of conscious connecting them to the generations of the Great Depression and before;

A thread of consciousness that enabled them to still feel a little something for the Little Guy, to still possess a little feeling for the Underdog;

These X and Y generations, massively anesthetized by the narcotic of materialism, can no more feel for the Little Guy than could Hitler's StormTroopers.

If these generations saw the Little Tramp Charlie Chaplin and the Little Orphan Kid clingging to each other as they ran terrified from the COPS, these Xs and Ys would be on their cell phones informing on the suspiscious runaways to the Homeland Swat Teams quicker than you could say Yup Pup.

We have only our selves to blame; having smothered them in a cocoon of cozy materialism.

That's the only difference between Vietnam then and Iraq now.

you ahve a very good point. the only way to know is to ask someone who was at Iraq and Vietnam. i have a feeling its becasue of the same reason. - to puruse the Cold War against communism. Bush and LBJ had the same intent. to have the whole world live like them. that they are all right and all who oppose are wrong. Old Betsy and me will be bussy if Bush is re elected! i am very worn out because i am constantly thinking of me and my old gal. and i need to sleep at better hours. i seem to go to bed about 10 to 11 and have to wake up at about 7 am to go to school. i am hoping to go to bed at about 8 or 9 enstead of 10 or 11. wish me luck

I see several paralells here.One being the "who is the enemy" thing.As they all dress alike/look alike etc.The other bing a war run by amatuers(politicians).Another being no clear plan for winning.I have several friends there,both in air cav units,and my favorite nephew is there in bagdad.It all sux bigtime.Good question Josh.
