Fuzz, Acid and Flowers, by Vernon Joynson, is a book comprising "an encyclopaedic guide to U.S. rock and pop from the early-60s to mid-70s covering garage, psychedelic and hippie rock." At one time, the entire resource was online.

This book contains band histories/musical analysis on over 5,400 US acts of the era with personnel and discographical information, where known. Also included are listings of over 740 compilations, and over 1,100 sleeve illustrations.

Firstly, thanks to all of you that bought (?) 'The Flashback - The Ultimate Psychedelic Music Guide' and to those of you that sent in tapes and additional information. All of this encouraged me to write this book, which is not just an update of 'The Flashback' but a much more detailed study of American garage, hippie-rock and flower-pop bands of the sixties and early seventies as well.

To provide a comprehensive guide (including detailed discographies) to American garage, psychedelic, hippie-rock and flower-pop bands of the sixties and early seventies.
To bring to your attention some of the recordings by lesser known bands of these genre. Biographies have been written about some of the better known artists and bands in this book. Consult these for more detailed histories of them.

Countless bands sprang up in America in this era and it would be an impossible task to document them all (you can see the length of this book anyway). The ones I've included are those I consider merit an entry. Doubtless there will be many omissions, though some of these will appear in the American Rock History series I co-write with Hugh MacLean. I've tried to ensure that the book is as accurate as possible but not all the information is easily verified.

How To Use This Book:
All bands appear in alphabetical order. 'The' has been ignored as the first word of a band's name. Individual artists have been alphabetised under surnames, e.g. Tim Buckley appears in the 'B's'.

Some entries are very brief, where bands or artists just released one 45 of appeared on a compilation, but for more prolific acts expect to see the following:

A Rarity / Sought-After Scale:
Those albums and EPs which are rare and sought-after (obviously there are some rare records that nobody wants) have been given a rating to the right of the year of release. Obviously too, lots of the albums and some of the EPs mentioned can be obtained in their country of origin relatively easily. The scale below can only give a rough banding guide to value and is provided for guidance only:

SC Scarce £20 - 40
R1 Rare £50 - 70
R2 Very Rare £80 - 140
R3 Extremely Rare £150 - 350
R4 Ultra Rare £400 - 700
R5 Seldom offered for sale but very sought-after More than £700

PLEASE NOTE: Any guide to the value of records is highly subjective. Any value will depend on the condition of the vinyl & sleeve, the local geographic scarcity, and the retail 'chain' (i.e. dealers will have a markup - they will probably offer less when buying an album than selling it). The value will also vary with time, and may go up or down. This button is for the whole book, you can create a shortcut of it,and put on your desktop and have the folder elsewhere.

I have used this book for 4 years now and it is outstanding for for me when searching for rock groups etc. A real must have

Wow Ama, da sind ja ein paar Schätzchen dabei
Das Nachbarhaus steht eh leer, vielleich sollte ich mal darüber nachdenken, es anzumieten, ich weiss langsam nicht mehr, wie ich die ganzen CD's, DVD's usw. noch unterbringen kann *GRINS*
