I was just wondering if anyone heard the new Metallica album death magnetic yet?? It's so much better than anything they've done in the past like decade. It couldn't be any worse than St. Anger lol. I've been jamming it for the past couple days, it's like they returned to they're old sound, that we haven't heard since like And Justice For All. Your thoughts comments??

Oh my god. ''It's so much better than anything they've done in the past decade''. Well, they've only done one other album in that time, so don't you mean to say ''it's sooooo much better than St. Anger!'' - and even then, I'd say it's on par. The production work on Death Magnetic is so poor, I couldn't listen to the album from beginning to start in one session. It just pissed me off a hell of a lot. You know, for a sell-out band that's making more money than I'd care to imagine, you'd of thought - especially with advances in technology as well as the financial side - the recording would be better than this by a long way. Stop hyping this album up!! It's TERRIBLE!! In my ears the only track worth a listen is 'Cyanide', but even that hasn't got a good dose of the Metallica kick you'd find on previous records (bar St. Anger of course).
    Metallica died with the Re-Load.

Yeah well, I wasn't even gonna listen to it but now I hear everyone saying that it's the best since And justice for all (which on itself was just ok in my opinion) I get slightly tempted to just give it a spin. I already know I'll get dissapointed though :D
Metallica ruined the fun of listening to them for me since Load was released. Or actually since Newsted came in the band and they didn't let him free enough. I have no bad words about Jason though, except he should have left earlier, like after the black album, because the other bandmembers got too full of themselves (or at least Ulrich and Hetfield).

    This says it all:

    Metallica - Death Magnetic

We live in a world of hype. We were told this CD would be a return to Metallica's older form, something I oppose (why re-do the past? people want authenticity, and ripping yourself off is not it). What you get instead is a highly advanced form of pander. They sort of do the older style, by dropping to a muffled E5 chord, but that occurs between verses and choruses of their new alternative-metal-grunge-country style. There are surface attempts at extremity (squealy, shreddy leads from kirk, a few pick-ups and breakdowns) but they know their audience, and anticipate that they're thinking slowly, so it has the pace of a heavy metal record with a few brutal downstrums. The problem with such transparency in a CD it's that it's obvious to the pand that they're pandering, and so they make half-hearted attempts which mock good talent, notably in writing melodies that harmonize well between leads and rhythm guitar. If you find yourself enjoying this album, check over your shoulder, because surely an anal rapist is what's making you smile. As with all things Metallica since 1987, the melodies are well-written but the songs are confused and go basically nowhere, so you end up with a catchy chorus in your head and then a muddle as you try to figure out where that great clarity from their first album went. Avoid this turd of a CD. You will hear it for two weeks before you figure out what a farce it is, and then out of shame, will continue to pretend to like it, just like you did with those neo-homoerotic Pantera CDs a few years back.

    I'm not very impressed either
I like a few parts in the day that never comes and everything else annoys me

Lars hits the snare too much
Its like they tried to make a mix of their first album 'kill em all and their recent stuff
I really think they should have retired after the black album
Its like Led Zeppelin coming back and making some shitty 'RATM' songs

I just got this album. Metallica has returned by going back to their roots. This is the Metallica of old, back to the days of Justice and Puppets. Suicide and Redemption is my fav from this album, but that can change with more listens, as this album is what I, and most Metallica fans have missed in many years. Seems like the boys finally awoke from their coma and decided to kick ass again.

im a fan of the older albums..

infact one of them.. think Ride the Lightning or Kill them all was recorded in my hometown, Rochester NY, that just further developed my liking for them..

but yea, since re-load basically, seems like they have lost touch.. black was the best of there latest albums, at least in my opinion.. a few songs on garage inc, the covers they did were pretty good..

80's Metallica rocked though.. it is really what developed most of heavy/progressive metal.. so im sure they will always be known to this & some further generations, as an epic contribution to the world of metal

Metallica isn't that great of a band. I mean on their best album all the good songs were stolen by Dave Mustaine, who is obviously a better artist.

Haha.. you're opinion, man. Metallica may have ruined it a bit for me, but I prefer them above Megadeth.
