I recently had a friend bleach about 10 of my 38 young dreads. I was thinking of putting bright blue in one or two. I have some blue dye from hot topic that is water based. The only thing that worries me is that in the ingredients it has 'synthetic beeswax' which sounds scary as hell. Has anyone used this 'Color Fiend' Brand dye from Hot topic? Did it leave a wax like residue or was it relatively water soluble?
synthetic beeswax? what the hell is that? parafin wax? if the natural version of somethings not very good the synthetic versions guaranteed to be worse some1 posted about unsweetened coolaid packs being great for a temporary bright crazy color but faedes in weeks id trust making my own dies more ..get a morter and pestal and whatever veg based pigment souirces u need glower pefals leaves whatever berries just avoid anythijg toxic or too sugaru
i haven't sorry. the stuff i used to use (this was before i had dreads) i don't remember the name of and i don't remember what was in it i wonder how easy it would be to remove those sprays you can buy at halloween time, the color sprays you spray into your hair and wash them out the same day? anyone?
I've never used Color Fiend, but I've used Special Effects and it works quite nicely. I've also used "Beyond the Zone Color JamZ" (with a capital Z) and it leaves a weird residue behind, and the bright, firetruck red somehow fades to a horrible-looking orange. And not just on dreads; a few of my straight-haired friends have used it and don't recommend it.
i used some stuff from Hot Topic to dye the tips of mine red. not sure if it was the same type, but mine was water based as well and didn't need any conditioner to seal the dye. mine turned out fine and didn't hurt my hair at all. they stayed red for a long time as well. i don't want to lead ya down the wrong road or anything, cuz i can't remember what the brand was, but it was water based and from hot topic..lol
just dont rebleach the dreads if you dont like the color- let it fade on its own. rebleaching causes terrible damage to your dreads. i know, all my tips are bleached and some are so dry!
u kno i just figured out why i thought 79 honda was a guy i guess i dint pay close enoughattention just see car names and u both have talked bout coloring dreads so in my head combined u 2 into 1 person.. 79hondas alkot cuter tho 79suburbans are big ugly gas guzzlers while 79hondas are just cute as can be so now i can at least tell ya apart yes im braindead at the momment...
I have a friend who constantly uses Manic Panic on his mohawk to get the crazy colors (bright red, blues, pinks, purples, greens, yellows, glow-in-the-dark, etc.). It's not permanent and fades quickly, but it gives you more options and means you can change colors more frequently. I've only dyed my dreads twice, and that was to actually get ride of bleached sections. I used regular, boxed hair dye (and even a tiny bit of the conditioner they provide), and my dreads are no worse for wear. Just don't be disappointed if the color doesn't show all the way through the dreads, I still have blonde spots in mine and I used two boxes! If I were you I'd try the color on one dread and see what happens. If it's not what you want, doesn't seem good for dreads or you aren't pleased, you could probably wash it out and you'd only have one dread to worry about. If not, I'd go to a beauty supply store and find something a bit more natural, and ask for help. They might not be experienced with dreads, but if you tell them you don't want any residue left behind, I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.
I think I'll try it one ONE and report back with how it turns out.. I wish I had one that would last a bit longer like several months, but it should be interesting :cheers2:
definitely report back! and do this I enjoy dying my dreads, but i haven't found a dye that I really like yet.
