I just started dreads a couple weeks ago. I also run 5 days a week, sometimes over 10 miles. (It's my hobby). Since there are a lot of salts in sweat, would this help or hinder dreadlock formation? I still only wash my hair ever few days with residue free shampoo...any thoughts or experience with dreads and regular/heavy exercise?
noo, don't worry about it, as long as you wash your hair they will be fine! you think cavemen sat at home on the couch all day?
I workout 4-5 days a week and do a spinning class 4 days a week and my dreads are fine i think it actually helps just me
i go to the gym 3-4 times a week and still only wash my dreads once a fortnight... or if it itches lol
what about swimming, Ive started swimming daily, does the chlorine - and not to mention the daily washing that goes with it have a negative impact?
i hate getting chlorine in my dreads, theres a pool at my gym, and at first i swam in it and dunked my dreads in etc. but i swear it loosened them.... might just be my hair, but still now i just tie my dreads up which makes me look stupid, but i dont care, i just keep my deads out of the water....
im a water aerobics instructor and i teach children how to swim 6 days a week- so needless to say my dreads are wet and full chlorine all the time. i dont think it hurts them at all. when they are wet they loosen up a bit, but i make sure to towel dry when im done for the day and once they are dry they're fine! i have super skinny dreads and my hair is down to my ass. so i put them up when im in the pool just to kind of help them stay dry. good luck on your swimming!!
i find that when i am exercising for an extended amount of time (4+ hours most people don't but i do when i'm hiking or dancing) and my hair is back in a pony tail, when i take it out it stinks a bit, a kinda moldy smell and so it buggs the hell out of my to have them down i keep them down
