A friend of mine (SinRex) who had read the views expressed here on the topic of escapism had this to say:

Human imagination is a wonderful thing. Without it we would have no poetry, no art, no stories. All these things could be agued to be a form of escapism. One could have a truly fulfilling life, with no cares or worries and it would still pale in comparison to that which you could imagine. To say that to enjoy escapism must mean that there is a seriously wrong with your real life is absurd.

You are asking people to deny their imagination and creativity. These are gifts, and indeed real life would be a great deal duller without them.

(He would have poted it himself, but while at work, he's unable to view the forum because it's too brightly colours, and he'll get in trouble).

That's why a lot of artists, writers, etc... are always so depressed, because the world of their imagination is so much better and vibrant than reality... and they know that reality can never be as good as the world they can see in their heads.

I think the same goes for a lot of comedians too.

man, i like how much people here think. slightly too cunning going in to my profile and seeing i'm christian but i don't really think that is where i'm coming from here. i mean it isn't really about the magic and stuff 'cause it is only a game but i think it is more about how things are used. it's like all things are for stimulation of interlect and enjoyment but all things can be missused, and i think as "the world of dan" said about playing on vice city he is enjoying the game as a laugh and that is fine. but i think there is a lot less care taken in keeping the purety of things, a naked picture can be artistic but can also be pornographic, and the stimulation becomes very different. in the same way, drugs can be used for meditation and exploration, or missused as an escapism and just a way of forgetting your situation. you can read a book for intrest in the story and enjoyment or you can get drawn so far into it that the purity of the art in the words becomes confused. just as watching a young teen look at a beautiful painting and just getting excited 'cause of the nudity is degrading and offensive to the artist, in the same way for a book/game/drugs what ever to be missused is degrading.

i'll appologise now for spelling mistakes, gramatical errors and the fact that my posts probably don't read very well. since this is the first long post i have done on the UK forum, this way unlike the main forum none of you need complain about me, i'm sorry i'm partialy dislexic
