I'm vegetarian because I like cows. Why do I like them? Because they taste good.

    aha.

i'm veg because I value the lives of the animals (and other beings that conciously suffer) more than I value giving my tastebuds a temporary thrill, especially a thrill that i can get from many other, kinder foods.

i just think it's absolutely wrong to kill something if you don't have to. i can't bear to think of something being killed so that i can eat it when i can be healthier eating something else. and vegetarian food is tres awesome... that was a contributing factor :p

I love and respect animals so much......eating them is repulsive to me.
Besides that aspect, factory farming makes me sick to even think about.

I was veggie because I couldn't find trustworthy organic healthy meat (healthy as in animals that had good living conditions and weren't always sick or on antibiotics).

Sick food is disgusting...there's a reason only vultures eat diseased animals.

I'm a Veg*n for a variety of environmental, social, & health-related reasons. I am an animal rights advocate.

I became a Veg*n when my dad did (he was dying of cancer) to help my mom find Veg*n recipes and kind of on a lark. Plus, I weighed 198 pounds and was hoping I might lose a little. But then one day I looked into the eyes of one of my companion dogs, and I made the connection. I haven't looked back since. I did lose the weight, but that's just a pleasant side effect of my lifestyle now.

I'm a vegetarian for a couple of reasons. I don't have a problem with meat itself, I just don't like the idea of breeding animals for the sake of killing them. That just seems really unnatural to me.

I also feel that because I have the option to not eat meat, I should take it. I don't need meat to survive, I have plenty of other things available that I can eat. If meat was the only thing I could eat and without it, I would die, I would definitly eat meat! But I'm not in a situation like that.

I am just trying to reduce the amount of suffering in this world. I think that animals are capable of emotions, and are clearly capable of suffering.
In that vien I get a lot of people telling me "well, plants could have feelings too," to them i say, "an animal has to eat a lot of plants before you can eat it, so it just multplies the aggregate suffering."

I can't stand meat...the way they treat the poor animals is disgusting! They feed the poor things hormones so they get big and fat ( 90% of all pigs and cows suffer broken legs, and the hormones carry deseases to!the people never care. Since hey! It costs money to make them feel better!right? This doesn't include biodynamic and organic though, that's why it's more expensive.).The chickens get stuffed into small cages, in which they cant move, there they live all their life, never let out until brought to the slaughter house. When finally brought to the slaughter house, the animals are herded together in a truck so close that they can't even move! The animals then literally go insane. Some even die on the way to the slaughter house, because they got trampelled all over by the other animals. To prevent them from killing each other , they started cruel acts, like striping chicken's beaks and claws off (WITHOUT pain killers....) . Pigs get their tails ripped off (again..WITHOUT pain killers).
When fianally arived at the slaughter house, the animals get zapped with electricity (I'll say it again...WITHOUT pain killers..), so they can't move. After that they get slaughtered one by one.

This practice is extremely unethical, IMO. That just prooves how greedy people can be.
I became a vegetarian because I don't want to support this torture. The animals you see grazing outside are just Organic and Biodynamicly raised animals, they live in the open and aren't fead hormones. However, after they step on that truck they experiance the same cruel faith the 'unlucky' animals experianced. Fast food places, and all the food sold at the stores ( behind the counters...),don't support biodynamic and organic. They buy the cheap, hormone raised animal's meat; which are then selled for 99 cent per hamburger.

    In order of importance...

I sat down on day and really thought about my reasons for eating meat, and realised there weren't any.

The animal rights aspect was the main issue. Having always loved animals (in theory)
I had fish at the time, and loved them to the degree you can love fish. So it seemed hypocritical to eat them.
Enviromental reasons are fairly important, we've only got the one planet and it's already pretty buggered.

Spiritual reasons should get a mention, didn't have any to start with but do now. My beliefs are mainly Pagan and Buddhist. Buddhism advocated not harm sentient beings and the only real rule of paganism is 'harm none'. So meat eating doesn't really fit.

At the risk of sounding like a lame 14 year old teenybopper... Three of my favourite actors are vegan. So they put ideas in my head, and prove it can be done.

Health was no biggie, as I was perfectly healthy before. It's intresting how almost all health scares relate to meat, so it's reassuring to side step them.

Mainly for the animals. After I learned a ton about factory farms and animal abuse, i started finding out that vegetarianism is good for me and the environment at the same time.

Very true, well certain sects do anyway.
Really not very knowledgeable about the religion.

I'm not Hindu though, hence my not mentioning it.
