Where to even start

My interest in things like spirituality, enlightenment, mysticism, and metaphysics started soon after I started using hallucinogens. It then peaked after trying LSD for the first time. I have since tried to find books and such on the subject. I downloaded The Doors of Perception and read the first couple pages, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. Anyone have any books on this subject I should check out. Something for beginners maybe.

I'm also interested in enlightenment through meditation. I've heard of heavy mediators coming into contact with the divine and taking journeys into their subconscious minds. I'd be extremely interested in doing something like that, but I don't even know where to start.

Someone experienced please help me out. I have no one to talk to or ask questions about this subject.

If you came to the path through hallucinogens then you might like to look into the traditions that take this path. One place you could start would be with Matthew Pallamary <that's a link to some audio interviews & stuff. He grew up pretty tough in Boston and has since spent a lot of time with Ayahuasqueros and other traditional users of sacred plants. I really enjoy listening to him.
