My daughter is 11 months old and right now she has really bad diaper rash. It has gotten to the point where it is bleeding when touched. She is on Enfamil AR Lipil formula (my milk dried up randomly by itself when she was 4 months). We started to gradually put whole milk in her bottle and she started throwing all her bottles up. SO we took the milk out. THen we started her on Enfamil Next Step formula. After 3 weeks of that her diaper rash got bad and she was throwing it up as well. Since she's been back on the AR Lipil she hasn't been throwing up, had the average diaper. But yesterday I opened her diaper around noon and it was bleeding. I have kept her clean and dry with cream on since then, changing her every time she pees.

Does anyone know of anything else I cna do to hep her? Her 12 mth check up is November 6 but if the rash doesn't get better I'm not waiting until then to fix it. She screams when I change her and I don't know what to do other then what I am doing right now....... :(

Maybe bathe her and then let her air dry for a few hours? Sounds like it needs to heal... maybe it has to do with her food, but I wouldn't know.

When my youngest son would get really bad diaper rash like that (allergy related), my ped recommended that I dab the affected areas with Maalox, let air dry (I actually sped the process up by putting my hair dryer on the COOL setting at low speed) and then cover the dried Maalox areas with Triple Paste.

It was the only method that worked for us.

Just a side note, my local pharmacy didn't carry Triple Paste, but they ordered it in for me, so if your pharmacy is out of stock, you can probably ask them to order it for you as well. However, it make take a day or two.

I'd also look at this being allergy related. Did you switch brands of diapers? If she is clothed, did you switch detergents? Wipes brands?

Could she be allergic to milk? Not uncommon for that to happen, even suddenly, right now or anytime. Is there something else she just started eating?

I would quit using commercial wipes and start using wet washcloths instead.

That's a suggestion I've gotten from a few of my more natural friends...it'll also be cheaper. THanks for the suggestions guys! I sat her in a warm bath to clean any infection out of the sores and then let her play naked for a bit. She LOVED it. lol. It seems to be clearing up a little bit, which is awesome.

Handful of oats in a tied up old stocking or leg from a pair of tights put into a running bath does wonders for sore skin like nappy rash. It turns the water all milky and soothing. Worked really well on my DS when he had v bad nappy rash.

I actually used Bag Balm onmy breasts when I was still breast feeding. I never thought about using it for diaper rash. I'm going to try that. We have gone through 4 different types of diaper rash cream and they seem to work for like 2 or 3 days and then it's as if she becomes immune to it.

I'm also going to do the oatmeal thing. Even in my baths. It sounds wonderfuly comfortable. lol.

    Thanks ladies!!!

Definintely go back to your old brand of diapers and wipes. My daughter had a really bad diaper rash and it turned out that she was sensitive to Pampers. I switched brands and it cleared right up.

it sounds like it might be a yeast infection, if this is the case you'll want to use an anti-fungal cream and keep her as dry as possible.

yeah good advice esp the to let her air dry and take her to the doctor right away... that "rash" could get infected and its very painful for her, I dont even know if I'd wait to see the doctor.

good luck to you and kisses to her bottom

Thanks for all the help mahmas. I have soaked her in warm water with tea and let her run around naked (resulted in me mopping once. lol) and changed her wipes back to the ones she's used to. She has barely ANY bumps now. Plus I have found a way to stop her crying if it becomes endless- strip her and let her go. haha.
