Reasonable regulation of a capitalist system is NOT Anti-American.

    Demanding that healthcare providers, weather they be pharmaceutical, Insurance, or Doctors and hospitals, give something back to the community;
in which they are allowed to flourish, is not Anti-American.

A responsible tax system is not Anti-American.

Spying on your neighbor, and attempting to call anyone unwilling to sign away their rights for the sake of the common good, Anti-American, however, is!!

Calling everyone who disagrees with your political views "Anti-American" is becoming the Republican battle cry!!

If you WANT to see the US drift into some kind of Orwellian-like-socialist-state; keep voting Republican. Were almost half way there now!!

If you value tolerance, Patriotism, and a society that encourages change, creativity, love, and respect; express your intolerance the next time you are lucky enough to be able to point out to a Republican Party supporter what it is they are really supporting!!

    just... shut up

" If you WANT to see the US drift into some kind of Orwellian-like-socialist-state; keep....."

If you are going to blame anybody for the demise of this nation, you might as well start with the apathy in our population.

Republicans..... Democrats.... at this point... they are just different names for the same thing... both are equally detrimental to our country through partisan polarization that divides and conquers us. But it doesn't really matter what they do as long as nobody know and nobody cares. They have free reign as long as the apathy in this country prevails. over 75% of Americans DON'T vote in the presidential elections. THAT is what will cause us to drift into the very scary realm of more government control through socialism.

This goes WAY past party lines.

    Jack,

There's Nothing I hate worse than being quoted out-of-context!

Here's your opinion, and I will actually address what you said In "context".

"Republicans..... THAT is what will cause us to drift into the very scary realm of more government control through socialism."

    My reply:

If you see the Republican's, incessant desire to take away many of our individual, civil rights any less scary (or socialistic) than the Democrat's Ideas of more socialized medicine, and Education; then just keep complaining, and doing nothing.

Furthermore, I completely disagree with your assertion that both parties are equally divisive! Divisiveness, fear, and hate speech; is exactly how the Republicans have managed control politics in this country for the last 10 years. And I might add, run the economy down and the deficit up!

And regarding your charges of apathetic citizens; I would agree but also add:

This a letter I wrote to a senior editor of Newsweek Magazine this week in response to his wasted two page political Op/Ed piece; in which he suggests
his generation of "coddled" 20-somethings should merely ask their presidential
candidate for something in exchange for their vote.

    "DArman,

Your idea, and seeming belief , that suggesting the best thing your generation can do to help itself, is to ask one man to help you; is a true testament to how much your generation, and I'll use your word here, has been "coddled"! It has obviously effected you too.

If you consider yourself a spokesman, and hopeful leader of your generation, I would suggest that you start prodding your "coddled " generation to get off their asses and actually do something for themselves-instead of just assuming someone will do it for you.

For instance, tell them to actually get involved as a group, and as an individual, in their local politics. Start monitoring, and telling your US congressman and senators that you will not tolerate their ignoring you! Write letters , make phone calls, let them know you're watching! Let them know their jobs are performance evaluated. I know this is like asking you guys to be super-human; but I believe in you!

I think you should start a national organization like the AARP. But, you could call it the "AACG" (American Association of a Coddled Generation). And the sooner you can get someone to do that for you , the better."
