Is anyone into either of these bands? I am just starting to listen to them, but they are already two of my favorite '60s psych bands. Favorite tunes so far: H.P. Lovecraft - High Flying Bird H.P. Lovecraft - Mobius Trip Pearls Before Swine - Images of April Pearls Before Swine - Drop Out I am going to try to get the albums soon. If you are a fan of '60s psych and haven't heard any of these songs, I would highly recommend them. I have heard a version of "High Flying Bird" by Jefferson Airplane too (not sure who did it first, or if someone else wrote it), but I think the lovecraft version blows it out of the water.
Pearls Before Swine are one of my fav. american folk rock bands.I think their best album is One Nation Underground (1967), but of course Balaklava (1968) is also amazing. The melodies are really good and some excellent poetry is on their albums. You have to check also Tom Rapp solo albums...I recommend you Familiar Songs (1972). H.P. Lovecraft?? HELL YEAH, I love their music...this is a true acid rock.Jefferson Airplane played this song probably before H.P. did. I you like this song, check then The Wizards from Kansas version from 1970.It is on their The Wizards from Kansas (1970) album and its also mind-blowing High Flying Bird was I think first recorded by Judy Henske in 1963.
I have already researched both albums online and they're at the top of my list. And I made "Pearls Before Swine" radio on pandora, and they played a few Tom Rapp solo songs, I liked them as much as the PBS ones. And thanks for the info on High Flying Bird. I'm still partial to the Lovecraft version still, I am definitely going to check into that album.
If you like HP Lovecraft check out the songs 'Wayfaring Stranger' and the awesome 'The White Ship' from their first album HP Lovecraft I (1967)
