So I need some suggestions on music to add to my ipod... make a 3000 mile road trip on my motorcycle down into central america... well new orleans then central america.... to do some volunteer work on organic farms and hopefully find a job teachin scuba....

I like everything but heavy metal and rap.... particularly fond of bluegrass and ole time stuff...... kinda in a depressed state of my life right now so anythign somber would be a plus thanks guys

Oh my goodness, that trip sounds amazing! When are you leaving?
Best of luck on your journey!!!!
And musically, I'll have to get back to ya, but my all time favorite roadtripping song is "Goin' Up The Country" by Canned Heat, haha. It always makes me smile for some reason.

get some elliott smith. Very sad but deep lyrics and he has a great voice. Roman candle, the self titled, and Either-or are his best albums(imo).

I'll cautiously recommend rilo kiley, it's hit and miss though.

I definitely agree with Elliot Smith, Phish, and Neil Young.

    Also...

    Radiohead, preferably their earlier stuff.

Smashing Pumpkins is great road trip music. Hell, it's just great music.

John Prine is pretty good, but a lot of his stuff sounds the same to me.

Grateful Dead, Keller Williams, Railroad Earth, String Cheese Incident, Umphreys McGee are all great jam bands, and some songs have a good old time/bluegrassy feel.

If you want bluegrass check out Del McCoury band, Cornmeal, Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band, Red State Ramblers to name a very very few. Thats not touching the old players such as ralph stanley, ricky skaggs etc.

    bbbbboooooooo

talk about over saturation of a song, and limited exploration of works by a mass populace. I will resist listening to wagon wheel for at least ten years til it is no longer popular.

well I feel sorry for you, not liking a song because it's "popular" is immature and childish. I didn't even know it was popular, I've never heard it on the radio. Popular or not, it's a great song and cheers me up, and that's all I care about. Stop trying to act so smart.
