I have been looking for a job for almost three months but I just can't seem to find anything. I don't really NEED a job until next summer when I move out, but I would like to start saving now. My question is whether or not I should just smoke now and then try to get a job again sometime after Christmas and keep working on it until summer (I'd hopefully get one before summer). I really hate to give up on this, but it really does seem just hopeless at the moment since no one seems to be hiring, and the few places that are hiring have refused me. Also, during the next few months of smoking I'll still try applying at a few mom and pop stores and some others that don't test, but I doubt I'll manage to get a job there (maybe I'll get lucky). What do you think I should do?
first of all if you dont need a job yet, i suggest not quitting and looking for a job that doesnt test. in the mean time have fun filling out aps and intentionally getting tested. you know what? they cannot share that information with ANYONE. you know what else? they pay for every drug test. if they're gonna pull this bullshit, make them waste as much money on it as possible! further, i do know one good bet to not get tested. it is technically a food service job in most people's minds. but a very progressive chain. they do a lot of good for a lot of people. their employees get wonderful benefits, and in fact often better than many full time more "respectable" jobs. i worked for them for about 3 years and had better health insurance than my parents, both of whom have high paying jobs which regularly bring about bonuses greater than my yearly income was....yet my company's benefits were good enough that i had far better health coverage than they could get! also 401k, the works, is there if you want it. it requires rather intensive and boring training to get going, but once you're there the job is a lot of fun, and the benefits can get even better than i described, but don't expect a wage far more comparable than any other restaraunt. depending on location and regional attitude, though, tips can significantly increase your hourly income. if you're willing to put a decent amount of effort into it, i've never once heard of anyone getting drug tested for any reason, though it is possible. they do reserve the right to test you, as will any company, i've just never heard of anyone actually being tested. if you're competent and can put in a decent day's work and keep up a good attitude...then you can have a good job and no testing with VERY good benefits!! pm me if you think you fit the bill, and i'll help you in any way i can. i had a negative attitude about this company before i worked for them, but they are VERY progressive and a great employer. one of the few companies in this country which spends more money on training than advertising. but in if you dont want to learn and work hard for what you get, then its not for you. either way, in the meantime, you should go to all the companies you can and apply, waste their money on paying interviewers which wont hire you, pass the interview, make them pay for a drug test, and fail that test! it is unreasonably idealistic to think this will make them stop their rediculous practices, but you can at least get back at them a little for not giving an honest, hardworking individual a shot just cause he likes to smoke once in a while!
VERY GOOD advice nesta! Another good place that is almost sure to hire ya without a piss test, construction jobs. Wether it be from framing houses to laying/spreading concrete, they are always looking for new hires. Some of the bigger companies may give a piss test but most won't. It's not always the funnest of jobs but for a guy your age the wages are USUALLY very reasonable. Of course there is always "fast food/diner" joints but if your a guy that likes to be outdoors than construction is a good bet. Or if your the indoorsy type there is always tile, carpet, plumbing, drywall, etc. type jobs that you are about 90% indoors. It's hard work but most of the time it's worth it. Just my 2 cents. - 42o -
If you get hurt at a construction job they will definitely test you to try to get out of paying for your injuries. Grocery stores, at least the ones around here don't do tests. I work at one and I've come in a little high a few times and they don't say anything. I mean I have never messed up on anything there so they probably don't care even if they think I might smoke. I don't let smoking effect my job and I actually work harder than anyone else there so I don't think it's too big of a deal. Ya fast food places suck, I hate them. But I used to work at one and the manager who basically ran the place knew I smoked and we all talked about smoking so I guess those might work good for you. Or become a dealer haha.
Whenever I was out of a job I'd always nag my parents to ask their friends to find me stuff to do. My mom is friends with a lot of older/widowed women and oftentimes they'd be pleased to have someone come and help them move stuff, mulch, garden, ect. And as soon as word got around I had pretty steady work, decent pay, and it was all under the table. And little old ladies always make you awesome lunches.
Olive Garden. if you leave on good terms, you can ALWAYS get back in, the benefits are good if you work enough hours, its pretty easy if you can avoid most of the drama, and you can go to school at the same time. the OG was my first real job, when i was 15, and it was the last job i had before i got pregnant. it was awesome. you don't even have to be a server, you can be a host and bake a real paycheck. plus they are owned by darden, who also runs red lobster. and they only drug test managers, but i've known at least 1 manager who smoked.
