URGENT: Weight of a half oz.

So I'm paying $50 for a half tomorrow, and I need to know what the weight will turn out to be.

If a quarter around here is about 7.5 grams, then it should be about 15 grams right?

 

aw, come on. a quarter of an ounce isn't 7.5 ANYWHERE. well, ok, thats not exactly true....but in terms of the black market, it is true.

you're buying by weight/mass, not by price.

a "20" sack is highly variable.

an ounce is not.

however, grams are measurements of mass whereas ounces are measurements of weight.

still, general standards are set essentially in stone.

for general purposes, 1/8 of an ounce is 3.5g.

that means 1/4 is 7g, not 7.5.

that ALSO means 1/2 is 14g, not 15.

the difference is only about a joint's worth, and it can get a lot more specific than this, but these are generally agreed upon standards of conversion.

besides, scales cannot accurately measure mass, but balances may. so even a scale measuring in grams is inherently faulty. in general, an ounce converts to 28g. there are some decimal places, but this will vary ever so slightly with altitude.

so for general purposes, heres the breakdown:

half eighth (sixteenth, but very few people call it that): 1.75g
eighth: 3.5g
quarter: 7g
half: 14g
ounce: 28g
quarter pound (aka QP): 112g
pound: 448g

the larger the quantity, the greater the margin of forgivable error.
like i said, it does technically vary depending on elevation.

weight is a measurement of how gravity acts on an object. this is determined by how far from the center of the earth you are, aka altitude (things weigh less the farther away you get from the center of the earth....eventually you will achieve complete weightlessness in outer space)

mass is a measure of the amount of matter present. for all practical purposes it requires gravity for the average person to measure it, but no scale actually measures mass. to appropriately measure mass, you must use a balance to measure your object against objects of a known mass.

but in general, the conversions listed above are the working means of judging mass/weight when it comes to everyday life.

Anyways what I meant was that here in Oklahoma, at least in my town it goes like this.

half eighth: 1.75g
$1-$3

eighth: 3.5g
$5-$10

quarter: 7g
$20-$25

half: 14g
$40-$50

I haven't really bought any more than just these amounts.

a pint is a measurement of volume. fluid ounces are not the same as an ounce.

a pound is 16 ounces.
a pint is 16 fluid ounces.

not the same thing. the weight of the pint will vary depending on density of the contents.....

This works for any quantities and units of measurements that are convertable!

 

its a good way to get a general guideline.

but the fact remains that mass to weight is only ROUGHLY convertable....its really a measurement of two totally different properties....

but yeah, in general the numbers given will more or less hold very true.

I usually get some pretty good bud, I mean you feel a head change after a couple of hits. There are those times when crappy bud hits the market, but it don't happen that often.

No, they are not made up. Here lately no one will sell anything under $25, but a year or two ago I could get whatever amount, I just give them some money and they would give me some bud. I did pay this dude for a nickel bag once in quarters too though, he was a pretty cool guy.
