What are you extracting? Is it going to be negatively effected by heat? Is heat going to help extract other stuff that you don't want?

In general, heating the solvent makes for faster extraction. But heating flammable solvents (like IPA) requires proper techniques and equipment to reduce the fire hazard. Just putting a pot of alcohol on your stovetop is a sure ticket to a Darwin Award! :)

I was extracting wormwood to make "The thuge", but all i got was some grass like substance, i heated it, on a stove, luckily nowt went wrong, but it wasn`t what i was after, i was after resin........i got.........grass.

Something has been bothering me, about how long to leave an extract soaking, now, i read the salvia extraction guide, and the dude said 3 minutes!!! i mean wow, that seems low, but he said it works. So is he right, can i just leave my extract for 3-10minutes? or is this wrong. I`m so confused.

Extraction time varies wildly, depending on the solvent, substance being extracted, and the consistency and characteristics of whatever you are extracting it from. There are no hard and fast rules that will apply for every situation. In general, the longer the extraction, the more complete it will be, but longer extraction times tend to result in a less pure product, as other plant compounds will start to be extracted. The optimum time/temperature/solvent can only be found via experimentation.

If you are looking to make a consumable extract of wormwood, why not use a solvent that you can consume? Grain alcohol (Everclear) would be a good way to go, and you don't need to evaporate it off completely.

If you want a pure essential oil from wormwood, solvent extraction isn't the right technique. Look into steam distillation.

Absinthe is just beautiful i must say......

As soon as i get some acetone, i am going to try datura extracts........should be fun, of course i wont be taking any.
I`ve done em in the past, but only with seeds.
