subjective to the observer. cause if its based on the perspective of a single person, that's the answer. if it's based on some unphysical property, thats still the answer imo....because essentially, all nature simplifies to a single observer. just put a man on LSD in the same room as an average person. anybody on a psychedelic could experience a few second as perhaps 20 minutes, while the other person experiences it as a few seconds. I remember when I was a child, I was just taking in so much more info, and time just seemed longer. or like, when I finish meditating, time is slower. it'd be interesting though, if your brainwaves were moving at a slow frequency, and you looked at a clock, would it tick slower, or would it seem to be the same speed?
I think that the world around you would be slower at lower brain waves, but not anyone could notice the difference. To see the difference you have to be able to compare to the other brainwaves, but this would very hard because the brainwave would envelope your whole mind including your memory, making them also move at the same speed. One would need excellent control of oneself to see the difference.
i've only read up until this post on page 1 in this thread but want to contribute now before i read on and get sidetracked! ive quoted this post because its reminded me of a dream i had a couple of weeks ago... basically, from what i remember and i recall having a good recollection of the dream, i remember seeing myself from behind and a bullet entering the back of my head/neck area which killed me. but just as the bullet enters me, it freezes in its tracks. i recall this moment something like this : that i died at that moment but in that moment i instantaneously lived another complete life, from birth through to death, and in that life i was 'happy'... in contrast to the unhappy life that had just ended in that same moment. even in the dream itself i recall feeling very very humbled about this realisation that life is.... well im not so sure how to conceptualise or describe it... but i do remember feeling very humbled and a feeling of beauty. make of that what you will but thats how i felt. it was a cool dream and i thought about its mucho's. now to read the rest of the thread lol! (just had to get that off my chest!). ps edited to add if i can dream things like this imagine what a good dose of DMT would do to me lol!!
what is time? in my very humble uneducated (sort of lol ) opinion: "time" is a rate measurement of molecular reactions, time is a word humans have used to measure reactions. molecules/sub atomic particles always react (apart from at absolute zero -273C - correct me if im wrong this is from memory so be gentle!), and we humans have used a measurement we call time to measure this. what is the actual process? well i think its just this : molecules, in fact all particles, just dont care! that is, then dont care about me, you, them, God, time, whats for lunch? they just dont care. they just react. they diffuse, they dissolve, they do whatever... simply because thats what the laws of probability dictate. they dont care! they just do whats most likely! and time is a human designed rate measurement of that.
You experienced someone elses death, as your own, that is amazing... Thanks for sharing. Very interesting.
Time is a very strange thing. It exists, but it is not universally moving at the same rate. It is, of course, always right now. But right now is just the same as past, and future, it's just an observation of the mind. So being right now, is no different than being yesterday, or being tomorrow. It's all the same thing as observed by us. However it still exists without us, there is just no people using words to make note of it, that's all. Momentum is still generated and acted out, forces are still attracting and projecting, things are formed and decayed, etc. Time seems to be one of myriad layers of reality. As stalk said, when light passes through the event horizon of a black hole, the frequencies slow down and the light is supposedly displayed to an outside observer as having a reddish hue due to the slower flowing waves. Thus, time goes slower. Time goes slower when we are having fun because we are focused on the now, rather than being focused on time as a strand of measurement.
