    the thought experiment is based on the quantum mechanical double slit experiment. u do know about that, don't u? it does not apply to macro scale things like cat and human beings, or molecules. just small particles like electrons, photons, etc. so it would be useless to try to think of it in terms of our everyday world.

    Its rubbish and could have been described much more succinctly without obscuring it with some stupid cat freak story

    OK this is exactly what it amounts to.
    At the outset of any given experiment involving only two possible outcomes, there is evidently a 50% chance that either one is true.
    Only by monitoring the experiment can the truth be ascertained to within 100% certainty, but the act of monitoring will affect the outcome
