Yes folks, we are now down to the LAST 100 days of BUSHIT as of today. Let's pray we survive to see another president sworn in. There's a whole SHITLOAD of stuff Bush can still do, and may do given the current circumstances. Apparently a LOT of thought and planning has gone into him declaring Martial Law, and he even threatened to do it until Congress granted him $700 Billion to play with as he and Paulson choose. I'm of the opinion (which I haven't really seen anywhere) that the USA is currently being held hostage by foreign gov'ts. The $700 billion was a payoff to prevent a country, let's say China, refusing to take on anymore US debt. Or perhaps to prevent it from selling off its existing US treasuries (thereby dragging down the US$). One thing is for sure, there's a LOT going on behind the scenes right now that we are being kept in the dark about. Like the plans for Martial Law... If he were to declare Martial Law there would be NO ELECTION, and Bush would stay in power indefinitely, until he decided to lift martial law and allow elections again. I have a feeling if the Repugnants don't think they're going to keep the White House, they may just declare Martial Law to deprive us of our rights to vote for someone else. So what do YOU think Bush will do in the next 100 days?
I think there is a desperate attempt to salvage any progress that has been made with the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear program. The latest descision to remove NK from the terrorism blacklist seems like a last ditch effort to continue negotiations. With the latest uptick in violence in Iraq, the possibility of being able to claim clear progress in Iraq's security may be in question. The increase in violence in the last couple of weeks may be a sign of another wave of insurgent offensives, which would undermine the recent downturn in violence. I think President Bush is looking for any sign of progress that he has made on National Security issues. Being able to claim minor success in some areas (Iraq and North Korea) may be the only thing he can do to keep from looking like a complete failure on every other level. This has probably been one of the most stressful pair of terms a President has ever experienced and one would think he would want out of that office as soon as fucking possible. I don't think there is a chance of Bush enacting Martial Law so he can stay longer. My opinion.
It is interesting to see the increase in power available to the Commander in Chief in the past couple of years. Military Commissions Act of 2006, John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007, etc... Kind of makes you wonder if they are expecting something.
Whoah less than 99 days. There's still this potential of post-11/4 being the best time to be alive, or it being more of the same.
Anyone who thinks the legislation that's been passed is going to be automatically nullfied when Bush leaves office had better think again. While it's possible the elections might be suspended, I doubt it makes very much difference to the people calling the shots. PDD-51 makes Bush and every president that comes after him a de facto dictator.
I do not claim to know what, if anything, Bush intends to do in the next 100 days. Personally, I think he is politically powerless at this point, to the degree that he would have a hard time getting even three republicans to agree on anything. Bush's political currency is so devalued that he could offer irrefutable proof the world is round and no one would want to appear so unwise as to take his word for it. I DO know that there is a very real danger that stems from the tendency to fill in the blanks with one's worst fears. It is a kind of self-inflicted cruelty to so negatively distort your own view of the world with the belief that the unknown must be far worse than you imagine. It's like finding new ways to relive the experience of realizing the "truth" about Santa Claus, or the loss of a loved one, or the very real fact of your own mortality. It is the dark, slithering, malicious cousin of mythology, idealism and creativity. I think keeping the lights on for the next three months is as "successful" as the Bush-occupied White House can hope to be. Peace and Love
I'm rather amazed at people who think voting is going to change anything. Unless you've been witness to what's happened in the United States over the past 40 years or so, you really have no clue to who really controls this country. Hint. It's not the voters. You're wasting your time if you or your vote matters. Your future is already planned out for you. x
Well, since he's a lame duck, he's going to be lame - right??? Oh, wait! ...he's been lame for 8 years!!!! My bad. *snickers*
The worst of it all, is that he's going to retire and live in the countryside or wherever in the world when he should be tried for a crimes against humanity and impeached.
you hit the nail on the head, aristartle. although I should point out that impeachment and conviction of Bush would result in a Cheney presidency. not pretty.
