My question to you soaringeagle.. have you ever crocheted your dreads? otherwise how do you know? I don't have weak spots and I you can't see that I crocheted..
weak spots are only the logical result of poking hiles through dreads and whast i read from others who crochetted and regretted it was when they stopped there was a distict difference between the crochetted and incrochetted hair in fact 1 was concidering cuttoing off the crochetted parts once they grew crochetting also creates more friz..every 1 hair u pull in breaks many othsers thaty eventuyaly come out needing to be pulled back in which break more..its a never ending excercise in futility that when done to excess can cause significant weakening but to answer your question no i have never and no i would never.. all i know of crochetting dresds is from reading others experiences and whats logical to me..pushing a needle many times thicker then a hair through a dread will brewak many many hairs..that just isnt something im willing to do if you say you cant tell yoirs are crochetted they try stopping for 6 months see if the new growth dont look and feel different
I have to wonder if the desire for smooth, glossy dreads is based on the image of glossy long hair in general. When you start to walk away from the typical ideal of beauty into a different beauty, it is easy to hold onto the "ideals" of the old ways. Now, for a special occasion/ make someone happy for the day sort of thing, how about using shine serum made from dimethicone? it washes out with a detergent shampoo, you wouldn't be doing it often, and there's not much "damage" that wouldn't actually enhance dreads (the surface of over 'coned hair can be rough-- locking heaven). Since you have extensions, I'm thinking you aren't all granola all the time, making this a viable possibility for you. Also aloe vera gel is also available in shops. just get 100 percent and not the green stuff as it has alcohol and other nasties.
ghehe you know.. the ones in my neck haven't been crocheted much.. but they don't look different from the rest :S I haven't crocheted now in a few months.. let's see how long I can keep it up
I'm really happy about my hair today. My boyfriend and i both decided NO MORE WAX. Although i've been too lazy to apply it properly in the past my bf uses LOADS of it. Anyhoo we both used Dr Bronners for the first time saturday and it was heaven. Been using Dreadhead hq for the last year and it has no scent and i didn't feel clean afterwards but after using Bronners my dreads feel smooth, tighter and smell like roses! I haven't even started on the aloe vera but we're going to take a few more cuttings off our mother plant so we aren't stealing leaves off just one.
they look great as they are, you dont need the wax. i, on the other hand, am thinking of applying some wax to tame the crazy frizzies and blunt the edges. i know how much people here are against it so im 50/50
\ u should both concider foing the wax removal with waxtheres a good chance they'll get gross in a couple years..gross enough that you'll decide to cut em better to get it all out now before they getmoldy and caked with dirt
Strange how it all makes perfect sense. Hate the idea of the dirt getting trapped in your dreads and not being able to wash it out. I haven't got much wax at all in mine anyhow so mine shouldn't be such a problem but Barry's were caked in them. Boiling water does the trick doesn't it? Luckily his dreads are only short so failing removing the wax we could wait till they grow a little then chop the waxed dreads off. Kthought thanks ) but i've noticed in pics you can't see frizzies as much but appreciate it. I'm going to try the aloe vera trick myself as we've got a great plant with loads of available cuttings anyway.
"if u crochette once new growth will look doffereent and u will have to crochette for life or always have a disteinct difference in look and feel the crocchetterd parts look wovwn, not natturaly matted" thats not true. That thing happens to ppl who dont know how to crochet...they just create loops on their dreads.
Ive had dreadlocks for a bit over 2 months now, and ive been using natural beeswax since they were just lil babies, i only use it when they feel dry and loose or whatever, as they are still new,and i must say mine are coming along nicely for just 2 months, it doesnt hurt, OVER waxing hurts peace
I used some aloe vera on my hair on Saturday and it did the job (o: and i washed it out sunday, also i only needed to use two leaves. Not sure whether it is placebo or not but my dreads feel really nice and tight after using it too.
glad u loked the aloe brothermat wax hurts..any wacx like u said ythey are babies over time wax in dreads trap alotta crap they become gross and most likely will result in you losing your dreads any wax is bad..thinkout it..its wax why the hell does wax belong in your hair? not to m,ention..theyre dreads dreads are hard enoigh to wash crap outta combine wax with dreads and what do u got? dirt stuck in them forever... not a good thing wax if you care more about looking good for a momment then u do about keeping your dreads a long time but if u want your dreads to last dont even concider wax
