I don't like to smoke in my bedroom, but sometimes i will after my dad leaves for work. I have a fan blowing out of one window (with the remaining section of the window covered) and another window open on the other side of the room. This seems to provide good air renewal for the room, but does it stop the smell from traveling to other rooms in the house?

My room is upstairs, and I blow the smoke right through the fan. I have neighbors though. How noticeable would it be from the back yard? and for how long would it linger?

    bring on the expertise

You should be fine if you are smoking from a bowl.

Don't blow it through the fan, blow it out the window. Blowing it through the fan could get it mixed up in the room. Have a fan going in your room (ceiling fan) or a floor fan pointed out the window and blow the smoke out of the window. The fan will keep it from coming back in.

And yeah, don't smoke jays or blunts in your room. That will stink. Use a bowl or a bong.

All the advice given is necessary however if your mom has a good nose heres a useful tool :D

Grab a spent roll of toilet paper and some dryer sheets stuff the roll full of the sheets to the point where you cant fit any and place one hand over the opposite and and blow away

should make your smoke smell like dry cleaning works for me every time :D

Hah, i used to do that. Now whenever I smell dryer sheets i think of marijuana.

My piece is tapered, with the bowl in the big end, and i have a loop of electrical tape that slides up and covers the bowl for stealth missions. When I'm hitting it inside, I slide the tape up while still inhaling, so that the only smoke let into the air is what comes out of my mouth, which is directed through the window.

no point for this post, just a follow up

I love incense, so I don't really worry about my room smelling since it always smells like incense. I always smell like incense haha.

First, set a fan blowing out the window. Seal off the rest of the open window very well.

By having a fan blowing out the window, you create lower air pressure in the room. Air will want to re-enter somewhere. If the window the fan is in has any openings, this will be the easiest place for air to re-enter. Ideally you want no gap whatsoever, besides the area the fan is blowing out of.

If a strong wind blows in from outside, it can force the smoke back inside. So an open window carries a strong risk of wind blowing in. If you have a properly placed fan, the wind would have to blow stronger than the fan to force smoke back inside.

If your fan is placed well, open the other window in the room slightly to allow airflow. Otherwise, an open window creates a risk.

You don't want to smoke a joint or a blunt unless you have a perfectly good airflow out the window.

To test the safety of your setup, light incense or a cigarette, and go to the door you do not want smoke escaping from. Hold the smoking object by the gap, and make sure smoke blows -inside- and is not sucked out.

As far as people outside, they might smell it quite strongly depending on the wind. If they have a window open on the same side of the building as you, and wind is blowing towards you, smoke could completely blow inside their window. If your priority is to keep smoke outside, there is very little you can do about this. A stronger fan, a perfectly sealed gap around it, and another window open to allow for better airflow, will help you.

To mitigate the smell as observed from outside, you could burn incense and have it blown outside the window - the smell of incense and weed mixed together is obvious to anyone who smokes weed, and it does not cover up the smell, only adds an additional smell. But the combination of the dilution from outside air and a strong fan will prevent the incense from being useless.

I have a fan that blows the room air outside. I take a hit as soon as I do that I put a cloth over my pipe and put my face right up to the fan. I also have incense burring along with candles. I wait a couple of seconds before I take the next hit so No smoke gets in my room I have a blanket under my door also

    I think that works

if you have two windows, screw the fan. Open the window more than the other window. Play with the ratio until you get a strong cross breeze going. The idea is to pressurize your room and then control where it is going out. You can use a candle to show you how it is working. Sometimes if the wind is variable it won't work, but most of those are times when you could be outside anyway. In the Winter you tend to get a good steady breeze. Never smoke a joint inside if you are trying to be stealthy.

Better yet, get yourself a vaporizer. Problem solved.

Everyone has given great advice so far. Basically have good ventilation and air circulation and don't blow or point the smoke towards pourous serfaces.

Burning Incense Is Psychoactive: New Class Of Antidepressants Might Be Right Under Our Noses

ScienceDaily (May 20, 2008) — Religious leaders have contended for millennia that burning incense is good for the soul. Now, biologists have learned that it is good for our brains too. An international team of scientists, including researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, describe how burning frankincense (resin from the Boswellia plant) activates poorly understood ion channels in the brain to alleviate anxiety or depression. This suggests that an entirely new class of depression and anxiety drugs might be right under our noses.
