Being the medically odd person that I am, I can't take the pill. I've switched brands like ten times and they all give me a yeast infection at the same time, every MONTH! I've been on the pill for almost three years, so you can imagine that I'm pretty sick of this.

Anyway, I was wondering what kind of birth control everyone else uses? Obviously, the shot or patch isn't going to work for me since it's pretty much got the same stuff as the pill. I've been looking into the fertility awareness method, which combines charting temps. and mucus to tell when you are fertile. It's suppose to be like 98% effective if you use it properly. Only problem is... I'm in eastern Kentucky, and I doubt I can find a class that teaches it around here. If I can't find a class I was thinking I may be able to read a few books and learn enough, what do you all think? Anyone use this method? The only other option I can think of (for me) is an IUD, but I don't really like the idea of that, so I'd like some feedback from someone that has had one before, if there is anyone here.

Okay, I'm trying to keep this short. Can anyone offer any advice?

    Thanks!:D

'fraid I don't know much about birth control other than shot doesn't have an increased chance of yeast infections like the pill does (I used to get them every other month too, and had to take two treatments in a row to get rid of them, they were so stubborn). But, if you don't want to take the shot, that's fine for you. I seem to recall something about a testing device where it essentially test how salty your moisture is to see if you're ovulating or not, but I could easily be hallucinating.

The only advice I have for you and all you gals is: DON'T TAKE THE PILL !!!!!! Especially if you smoke cigs. (I don't smoke cigerattes.) They gave me blood clots in my right leg and I nearly had to have it amputated. Seriously! They advertize that possible complication in their ads, but phrase it "Do not take if prone to blood clots" or something like that. The problem being most young girls don't know if they are prone to clotting or not.

condoms + spermicide is one option that's not really too complicated and exciting but the combination, when used correctly, is supposed to be like 99% effective or something i think.

i think condoms are the best if you don't want the hormonal things.. or iud... i mean it kinda starts ruling everything out ;)

And then what? Have 18 kids with your husband? Or are you only planning on having sex 2.5 times?

I was with my ex-wife for seven years and we used the rhythm method the whole time, and some times condoms when we couldn't resist each other for the one week that she could possibly conceive out of every four weeks.

you do need to educate yourself and have some discipline, but it definitely works.

yeast infections are deeper than something a birth control pill can cause. the birth control only makes you more susceptible to an over growth of yeast. search "Candida" or "Candidiasis" to learn more about the "silent epidemic."

you see, doctors prescribe antibiotics pretty freely and they never tell anyone to take probiotics to replace the beneficial flora to your system. you need to take some acidopholus, bifidus, etc. after antibiotics to protect your body from another infection.

    western "medicine" sucks!

Thanks. :) I'm really thinking about using this (with proper education, of course).

I know what you mean about the antibiotics. Everytime I go to the doctor they want to prescribe them for something. If I do take them, I eats lots of yogurt and get the doctor to give me some Diflucan in advance.

I looked into the whole Candida thing and am pretty much convinced that my body is over ran with it. Can anyone offer a good supplement or something to take for it? Would acidopholus capsules do the trick?

Thanks everyone. You were all helpful.:D
