I have been growing 2 fem cheese from GreenHouse Seeds. They are in a single soil container of about 5 gallons, but they are in a small growcab under a 70w hps and 2 cfl. During my third week, just as i initiated flowering, I put a can of nightcrawlers into my soil. Granted, I know worms will die when exposed to ammonium nitrate, but who cares. Those guys were hard at work in there for about a week. After that week the worms died from me fertilizing my plants, but the result is an explosion in root growth. I know most people like red worms because they have a higher metabolism (eaters and poopers) but they tend to stay closer to the surface. The nightcrawlers on the other hand stay as deep in the soil as they can. When they die, you don't smell them and their decomposing bodies fertilize your soil. I imagine this would also boost beneficial bacteria growth, but i can't substantiate that. After the second week of flowering, my entire soil is covered in roots. I was wondering if anyone had a similar setup, but with organics. That way your grow would become its own ecosystem.
