This year while I was enjoying the delicious meals made by various kitchens I thought to myself ' Why have I never seen a rainbow family cookbook'. I thought this was a grand idea, even if it was not a book, a e-book would be just fine. Has it already been done? I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in this, if so please say something and we can get the ball rolling! Lovin you.

we have taken pictures of the food from all the kitchens weve visited over the years and thought of making a coffee table book..

lol , theres some seriously disturbing looking food in those pictures..:p

a cook book would probably be much more appetizing...;)

I think a Rainbow cookbook sounds cool.

Here's the recipe for Rock & Roll spaghetti:

Make up a few 5 gallon pots of red stuff (tomato sauces, pastes, stewed tomotoes etc...) and flavor it with italian spices (oreganos, basils, garlic, rosemary, thyme)

Play a bunch of rock & roll while the sauce cultimates

Boil up whatever pasta you can get ahold of

    play more rock & roll

serve spaghetti to the masses while playing playing more rock & roll

note:this works best on the 4th of July :)

    a rAiNbOw CoOkBoOk...what a GREAT idea!

it should include some alternative cooking ideas/tips too...like how to build a clay oven, solar cooking, cooking on the road, keeping a travelin' kitchen sanitary, how to feed thousands...

    Here's a favorite, rainbow style:

Gather up as many jars of peanut butter as you can. After one big jar is empty, take 1/2 of each smaller jar and empty into bigger jar. Basically, you want lots of half full jars.

Prepare your spice base with the flavors of soy sauce, honey, toasted sesame seeds and hot pepper. You want a thai sweet and spicy flavor but you won't necessarily have all the "perfect" ingredients. If you've never cooked, this may backfire, but if you have a palette go for it, and have your spice base be about 1:8 with the peanut butter you have. If you don't at least have soy sauce and hot pepper, please don't try this or it will be like peanut butter sandwich pasta, and really that's kind of gross.

Cook up a pot of pasta. When you go to drain the hot water, pour enough to fill all the 1/2 full jars of peanut butter. Reserve some more extra in a spare pot. Have a shakedown party to mix peanut butter and water into a sauce base.

Pour the peanut butter sauce base and spice base back into your pasta. Use small amounts of reserved hot water to rinse each container into the pot. Bring to a bubble for at least 10 minutes, stirring often with strong arms. Serve with some fresh green stuff as a garnish-- like chopped cucumbers, blanched dandelion greens, snipped green onions, etc.

I always thought this one was fun... kids love it and it's great if you have a sweet tooth you just can't seem to satisfy

    Apple Pie on a Stick
1 Jonathan or Rome apple for each person
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 tablespoon cinnamon

Push a stick or dowel through the apple top until the apple is secure on the stick. Place the apple 2 or 3 inches above the hot coals and turn the apple while roasting it. As the apple cooks, the skin browns and the juice drips out. When the skin is loose, remove the apple from the fire (but leave it on the stick). Peel the hot skin off very carefully.

Combine sugar and cinnamon. Roll the apple in the sugar-cinnamon mixture, then return it to roast over the coals, letting the mixture heat to form a glaze around the apple. Remove from coals and let it cool.

These zu-zus employ a fucking mother load of improvisation, flair, presentation, and sauces. This sauce is as good as the chocolate used to make it, so go for a quality brand. Coconut milk adds a rich flavor dimension. makes about 1 cup. 1/2 cup light unsweetened coconut milk. 2 tablespoons sugar. 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup. 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract. In a saucepan, bring the coconut milk, sugar, and maple syrup to a simmer. Remove from the heat. Add the chocolate. Whisk until the chocolate is melted and the sauce is smooth. Whisk in the vanilla extract.Serve at once. These little pastry bundles taste like fresh mango pie. Dress them up with a drizzle of melted chocolate. 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed. 2 large ripe mangoes, halved and pitted. 2 tablespoons sweetened shredded dried coconut. 2 tablespoons crushed peanuts. 1/4 teaspoon sugar. Confectioners' sugar for garnish. Preheat the oven to 400 F. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured work surface, to about a 9-inch square. Cut the pastry into 4 pieces, each about 4 1/2 inches square. Chop the mangoes and divide among the pastry, placing a spoonful in the center of each pastry square. Top the mangoes with a sprinkling of coconut, nuts, and a pinch of sugar. Gather the corners of the pastry squares together and pinch them together to envelop the filling. Twist the corners of each pastry together so it looks like a little bundle. Repeat until all the bundles are sealed. Place the pastry purses on a nonstick baking sheet and bake until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Serve warm with a dusting of confectioners' sugar or melted chocolate. www.recipelink.com/fags.html

    "rasta" porridge, anyone?

1 big can of yams, 1 normal size can of sweet corn, 1 celery stalk in slices.

put it in a pot, smash up the yams, simmer till it reduces enough and put the celery in.

use a generous amount of tobasco to make the perfect spicy/sweet/mushy/crunchy vegetarian feast.

    super simple, super cheap.

Pantry meals consists of sauteing garlic in olive oil and adding a can of artichoke hearts, a can of diced tomatoes, and some sliced black olives. You can also add some capers or chopped roasted red bell peppers, or maybe a can of white beans and a few handfuls of baby spinach, if you have some. Simply toss this mixture with cooked pasta, and dinner is served. You can also use it as a topping for your favorite grain, or on veggie cutlets, bruschetta, tofu, or veggie burgers. www.epicurious.com

I really like rainbow oatmeal! i believe it is made with what ever kind of canned fruit, oatmeal and a touch of love to add just the right amount of sweetener. I can eat that morning, noon, or night, just not in the same day, well maybe twice in one day.

Here is the recipe for dinner we use daily at IRIS kitchen:

Look through the vegetable bins and pick out almost everything rotting.
    Cut out the rotten parts.
Chop up the rest, put it in a pot, add garlic, salt and water and bring to a slow boil
Figure out what starch we have too much of: potatoes, bread, flour or pasta
Go around to other kitchens begging for enough spices/sauces to actually make the starch taste good with the mix of veggies
    Turn it into Food
    Voila!

IRIS has some good connections for wholesale produce in Florida by the bushel/case. $20 put in the magic hat can buy 50lbs of potatoes, 50lbs of cabbage and enough garlic to keep vampires away all gathering. Your $20 at the Ocala grocery will get us less than a fifth of that. Cooperative economics work! Last year $300 bought damn close to a ton of produce which kept IRIS, Grateful Dreads and Fat Kids stocked all gathering. We'd love to make that happen for ALL the kitchens this year! More money left for chocolate

rainbow cowboy coffee, get a really big pot, fill it with water, dump in coffee grinds, put on a fire and simmer, get everyone around it to watch, after a long time the grinds will start sinking to the bottom, when they have mostly all sank ladle the coffee off with out disturbing the mud at the bottom.

in this way you can brew a crapload at a time.

sit halfway between front gate and the main gathering and force tired looking brothers with heavy packs coming in to drink it.
