Hey everyone. Im new to the forum, so lt me tell you a bit about me and my locks. Its been a month. I am getting slightly worried as 1 or 2 of the locks have holes at the root, and some of the hair has about an inch before the dread starts. and I'm worried this will stop them locking. I think I am always over worried about them. I am actually in my mid 20's but took the decision to dread-lock my hair just over a month ago. A very very good friend of mine who passed away was of the rasta-fari faith and took me out of a bad place and saved me from personal destruction. For many years he helped me and guided me. The reason for my decision on locking my hair is because the last time I saw him before he returned to Jamaica to live out his final day was. "there is only one last thing for you too, make an ol rasta happy, and thats to lock that hair up, for how will Jah ever lift you to the heavens with nothing to hold onto" So i honor him, and his teaches to me with this. And ultimately it has made me feel better, and strengthen my ongoing faith and love for the eternal and never ending Jah. Yes they have been back-combed but apart from that there is no product. To clean them I use ackee bar. due to personal beliefs I will not put anything man made onto them. So i think my reason for being over worried is because pat of me, which I do not like as it shows weakness in faith. I have added 1 or 2 pictures below, if anyone could tell me in there opinion if they are looking fine after 5-6 weeks, or if I am being over worried for nothing or if something looks wrong I'd appreciate it. Help ease a young dreaded head mind. Peace, love and harmony eace: May the never ending love of Jah forever guide you in your ongoing journey
lookin good, let em do there thing. No need to worry i hear dreads can take over a year to mature. Cool to hear bout the rasta belief too... never read much bout it.
there will be about an inch of hair before the dread... ie.. scalp, hair, dread.. its the way it is, helps it move etc =]
theres nothing to worry aboiut ackee barthats some kinda tree? what is it exactly hows it used.. your eoots will take care of emself they just need more time the holes well even in natural dreads they can happen, but i thnk in backcombed theyre from you telling the hair where to section insteadof allowing it to section where it wants the dreads with a hole in the roots most likely woulda sectioned into 2 dreads not 1 if left to do it on its own its ok though as they tighten they'll fill in
They are looking wonderful for the amount of time they've been around. roots and ends are said to be the last parts to dread up properly, so do not worry. Movement is what helps them lock up, so the undreaded parts will move and eventually dread. It's a long process, so practice patience and all will be well.
Thank you all! you have really helped put my mind at ease. In regards to Ackee: Ackee is a planet which grows in jamaica. traditional Rast-fari will ONLY use this to wash and clean themselves with, it is used in bar form which is made with only the resin which i leaked or extracted from the plant. My mentor who has now passed brought me a few bars back a few years back when he visited his family in jamaica. eace: can you feel it?...theres a natural mystic blowing through the aireace" Peace love and harmony. Jah lives. Mika
I love the quote from your mentor about jah pulling you up tp heaven by your dreades! That puts the biggest smile on my face and in my heart. Your dreads are beautiful and will lock up fine. Your on the right path! Shine on!
they look great. they'll be big ole fatties too, lol! sounds like your locks are quite the spiritual journey for you... mine are too, in a different and yet completely the same way. but of course, for we all are ONE LOVE. eace: and happy nappiness to you!
thank you for all your kind comments and thoughts. I am very thankful for being blessed with dreadlocks. I always believed that due to my past I would not be blessed and they would not grow. I will never forget when my mentor told me "Jah does not discriminate, if your past is your past, your future will be your future" I used to be very hate filled. I never believed him when he would tell me it is easy to hate, yet it takes special people to love. To love your brother isn't enough, you must love the one who does not love your brother, and love him as you love your mother eace: Jah bless and love you eace: Mika outside URL removed ************** Moderator's note: Occasional outside links are okay if the add to an existing topic but please don't furnish links to a discussion elsewhere when you can initiate a discussion here.
