Indecent Material

It has just occured to me that some of the ideas posted on this board border on indecency. Some of the links, tips, descriptions of sex, and descriptions of drug use cross the line for many people.

Would it be ok for the owners of the url and the board to be dragged into court and prosecuted under decency laws for allowing this to go on? Are we really so ignorant as to believe that curtailing free speech will not have a pernicious effect on society as a whole?

Is it hypocrisy to participate in one form of indecent speech and condemn another?

 

Freedom of speech is not there to protect the thought you love the most, it's there to protect the thought you hate the most. IF your not going to offend anybody then there would be no need for the first amendment. All people have the right to speak there mind freely. In order to live in a truly free society we have to sometimes tolarate things that we don't agree with. To prosecute somebody over something they stated is a waste of the courts time and a waste of jail space for real criminals like robbers, murders, child molesters, and rape. If you don't like what somebody says, ignore it. If a certain subject offends you, don't click on the link or go searching on it, just move on.

 

Plus, aren't the servers overseas?

 

I believe The servers to hip forums are, Skip himself is overseas and I think it's on a private server. I could be wrong on some of this though, you would have to ask skip about server location and all, but the people in America are still under American law no matter where the servers are. Here in America we have freedom of speech. I try to always be good to other people but at the same time i stand strong when it comes to freedom of speech, to me it is one of the most cherished freedom's we as American people have and both sides should have the right to speak freely.

btw, You mention drugs, and i've got to tell you that your moniker, MaryJohn, would definitely lead folks to believe that it is a synonym for male marijuana. Unless you meant to say that?

 

Coudn't help but think about what marijuana growers do with the male plants. Pick them out and discard them, so they don't fuck up the rest of the crop.

I haven't seen anything indecent on this site, but, by far, the most offensive writings that I have seen were in the christian forum by some fundies.

I've read the bible, Fyrenza, when I was a believer, using a program called "walk through the bible". Took a year. And I found some interesting concepts, like "Jubilee".

I can find a "blessed are the peacemakers" passage, but I am having trouble finding "god bless america" in any of the bibles we have here at home. Can't find it online either. It isn't free speech, it is regulated speech. There are community guidelines.

Of course hipforums is regulated speech, and we all agree to some rules by posting on the forum. It's the sticky at the top of this forum. Read it.

When I come on here and push ‘new posts” it is just full of teenagers sex, incest, ect which creates a huge fishing site for pedophiles. It is big industry for law enforcement to go on these sites and pretend they are horny 14 years olds and lure old perverts into the trap.

Then the drugs, “hey dude I just produced such and such (committed a felony)” here is my IP address. Local law enforcement love tips and info the get from feds that monitor the Internet.

People who think they can’t get the IP addresses because it is over sea ? NOT. How do you think they bust all the child porn rings with over seas servers?

But hippies have always been known to have their heads in the sand, “Don’t worry they only go after big time drug dealers” “I use a proxy I’m safe” ect.

I will bet anything there are dozens of LEOs that hunt regularly off of this site.

My purpose was to point out that you have an immature concept of “free speech.”

You can easily see the need for guidelines within this tiny cyber community, which are far stricter than in a real community. Yet, in a real community, you think guidelines have a negative effect on the community.

Not quite. And please let me speak for myself. If you want to criticize my concept of free speech, you should at least allow me to express it first, instead of telling ME what YOU think I believe. Maybe you know someone who is against all regulation of speech, but it ain't me dude.

I am for proper regulation of speech when it is in the interest of society. Yelling fire in a crowded theater, and all that. Come on, that's really simple stuff, and I really don't see where I have said any of what you just criticized me for saying.

I understand that there are certain limits, there are to everything. I'm all for busting drug dealers and pedophiles and the like.

 

Speech on this site is protected. That doesn't mean it's private. If you announce a drug deal in public and then get arrested for it, well, you are a dumbass.
