Does anybody else have one? You know, the backpack with a pouch for water and a hose to drink from. I found mine in my garage and I drink a lot more water now.
They work well for sea kayaking. People sometimes capsize their kayak when trying to open up the day hatch behind the cockpit to get some water. It's a hassle trying to get back in a sea kayak unless you know how to roll. With a hydration pack, it's always there and ready. .
Keeping them clean is an issue. The water will taste bad if they are not cleaned over time. http://www.epinions.com/content_4058161284 .
i think they're kinda silly. they are good for people in a kayak or on a bike for a very long stretch of time, but i think they're mostly overkill. all things considered, i prefer a platypus http://www.rei.com/product/617928 very durable, very lightwheight, when empty they can be collapsed, and i've even known people to inflate them and use them as pillows.
i have one...mine is ideal for sub zero weather. its insulated so the water won't freeze. when i was doing training out in -20, -30 weather it was a life saver because my canteens would freeze, but the camel back water was fine. and it made it so i didn't have to expose my hands or much of my face to those elements. and i wish i had one on my bike trip. would have made things a little easier
dave has one, and he loves it. he's out there for hours and hours at a time and it's just hte ticket for him. i'd like one, too, for when i'm out there with him.
those are awesome, I just use a bottle though. I'm sure if I went on another long bike ride, I'd consider getting one, but it's not a high priority for me at the moment.
