How many of you have a history of anxiety, depression, or other mental illness and have used shrooms?

Is it really possible to have a good experience on shrooms, or any other psychedelic drug for that matter...if you have a history of mental issues? I really hope so.

I'm prone to anxiety and panic attacks, especially while under the influence of pot. I don't have a very stable life at the moment but I'd love to try shrooms and other hallucinogens when my life is a little more stable and there is less to worry about(therefore, less anxiety).

    Any advice?

I see no reason why psychelics can't act as a catalyst to underlying mental issues. Think of them as a magnifying glass. If there's anything there, it will only bring them to surface.

I've dealt with, and still deal with depression and anxiety. While I feel I am much better than I was in the past, I still haven't conquered it completely. With that being said, it hasn't taken away from my ability to enjoy the psychedelic experience. Truthfully, only you can decide if your mental capacity warrants taking a risk. I did, and its helped me tremendously in all facets of life. Just wish Lady Lucy would come around...;)

My mother has a long history of abuse and depression, I tripped some mushrooms with her last summer, and she had a wonderful time. Wants to do it again this Christmas Eve! If anything it helped her analyze and handle some of her issues, though I would hesitate to say this is true for everyone, though I think it is common.

The way magic mushrooms make you feel is very, very different from herb. I get very uncomfortable when I smoke even 2-3 hits, but I can gobble up handfulls of psychedelics and be in heaven, even if the trip takes you through hell and back againn.

I had really bad depression in 9th and 10th grade and some paranoia and anxiety in 10th
I did shrooms in 10th and it was all good, as oppose to weed which seems like it exagerrates your problems or gives you a hazed out false security, shrooms lightens up your life and you can look people straight in the eyes and feel comfortable

I really enjoyed it and I felt like it took away all my minds clutter
I say you should try it with 1-3 good friends

Personally, I say if your having anxiety or depression issues, you are actually a prime candidate for mushrooms. Even if your borderline crazy or shizophrenic, or have bipolar tendencies, the sanest I ever feel in my life is after mushrooms. And it leaves a lasting impression of sanity, balance and control over myself.

I wouldn't say this about any drug, I would not say this for LSD, MDMA or even marijuana. But mushrooms really have that ability to show you whats truly wrong with you at a deep level. Which with that, you have to understand that yes, underlying issues, it will bring them out. But I personally believe it's best to get such things out into concious light for you to start working away at rather than leave them deeply buried in yourself for the rest of your life.

Just make sure you have friends that you deeply trust with you. If you approach mushrooms with the intention of sorting yourself out, you do not want to do it alone the first time.

And if I do it with that intention, I believe it's a really good idea to leave your place, your city, that you typically live in. Get away from it and eat them. Then you can reflect back upon the city, see the city from a distance. I think you'll find many of your problems actually don't exist in you, but rather in the city.

i suffered from depression for most of my life. even to the point where i have become suicidal. doing shrooms can aggravate that but they can also be quiet helpfull. the trick is to just take them when your already in a good mood/mindset. ive done shrooms 22 times and even though ive had a handful of VERY bad trips, im better of today because of it
