well i don't have them, but a dude i worked with had them for quite a long time, and came in one day and his head was shaved. he said he still wanted his long hair but not his dreads anymore and i asked why he didn't just brush them out and he said it was impossible. so i was just wondering.

I think the tighter they are the more difficult and time consuming it will be to comb them out. Also probably painful.

When I got rid of mine a few years ago, I tried sleeping with conditioner on my hair for weeks and attempted to pick them out, but after 4 painful weeks, it was just no use, so I cut my hair. I was able to salvage quite a bit of my hair, once I cut the tightest part of the dread, the rest was easier to comb out.

It's a big decision--I still miss them every once in a while. I now have a few dreads here and there, but don't think I'll ever go full-fledged again.

^ you know you come across as incredibly rude with the way you speak to people who decide that dreads wont work out for them. Dreads are a hairstyle first, if you want to attach a spirituallity to it then it's your choice.

However, NO one is ever wrong to decide that something on their body is no longer workng for them. YOU have no right to judge them as such.

How long did you have them? Were they locked up?

I guess it depends on how long they were, too. Mine were fairly long, so that's probably why it took more effort to try to comb them out. I lost a lot of hair in the process too. That's why I'm sporting only a few dreads--they're funky and fun, and if I ever get rid of these, I don't think it'll be quite as difficult.

they were 6 months, fucked, full of wax, brittle (half were bleached), about to my shoulders.. just past them i guess.

it took 3 days to take them out cause i was doin it by myself and i did about 4 hours a day in one go, or until my neck/arms hurt too much

tbh i hated that set from the start. defo preferred my first set of dreads
