what?! no one likes a bit of culture anymore? Mascagni's Opera Cavalleria Rusticana next saturday night, tickets are $10-25 and I am going by my damn self. Ima get blooooowed, take a cab and enjoy some beautiful music. Nov. 1, the symphony is featuring a wondeful cellist for scores of Bach's music. I cant wait. I will more than likely go by myself too.
And in NY I just cant believe none of my people wanna go. it sucks being the only music junkie you know. :sad.
i like a lot (but admittedly not all) opera, its just i know i love some and hate the rest, and don't know which ones i would like! but i'd totally go with you, i've wanted to see one for some time now!
Im not gonna pretend I love it all. I go to the theater or music hall a few times a year. not all for classical performances. last time was a pink floyd laser show by the houston symphony. it was awesome.
JS Bach is amazing, one of my all time favorite composers. but afaik he never wrote any proper operas, though used some operatic techniques in a few of his compositions JC Bach, though, one of JS's many musically gifted offspring, did write some operas. usually when people mention "bach" though its assumed to be johann sebastian bach, as far as i'm aware. i don't know of johann christian's works very well, and am poorly versed in both baroque (JS Bach) and classical (JC Bach, Mozart) music but i just don't see how anyone could call JS Bach lame...i guess it IS all opinion, but damn! a beautiful performance by one Sarah Chang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOVwokQnV4M and the inimitable Yo Yo Ma: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZn_VBgkPNY&feature=related freiburg baroque orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ9qWpa2rIg
I have the attention span of a 6 month old puppy. Opera is not my thing. Go by yourself, the experience will be far more magical.
I'd go to the Opera with you, but I don't speak a word of Latin. I'd probably fall asleep. What language is it in?
me either. and i've only heard of a few operas written in english, which is all i'd comprehend...and what english language opera i've heard i didnt care much for....i care more about the beauty of the sound than the meaning of the words, really, so it all depends on how its written....more important to me than what the lyrics mean
I used to go to operas, symphonies, and ballets with my mom whenever there was one she wanted to see. It has been awhile though.
I went to a Bach festival once in Spokane Washington. Though not my favorite composer I did really enjoy the live performences...They played compositions from all of the Bachs. It was really neat. I think any classical music heard live is amazing...but for me Mozart can't be touched. I know I'm a little biased and that's wrong...but I can't help it. Yo Yo ma is one of my favorites. He does justice to the classics! Kudos on the links.
