I'm pretty sure the answer would be "no". the best response I can give to the original question of this thread is that time and space can't really be measured.
i don't even remember what those things taste like. were they candy or were they supposed to be a fruit serving or some shit???
Psychiatrists used to warn people off pondering infinity as it can actually drive people insane. I think it makes no sense to think of the universe as infinite, but at the same time it can't possible be finite either because that would mean it eventually comes to a stop. In order for there to be an end point, a barrier along which the edge of the universe is defined, there must be "space" beyond which for us to define that barrier against, if you know what I mean. This strange paradox has been fucking with my head since I was a young boy.
yeah, and what really defines universe... would the space beyond be part of it too??? i agree with the idea that time and space are immeasurable in their entirety, yet short spaces of time and of space are easily computed.
Sure. The simplest way to think of it is, not surprisingly, the straight line. What defines the length of it, or the point at which it ends is of course the bit that comes after where the line ends, the non-line bit. I like the idea the general relativity proposes, that space and time may be curved in on each other so that if you travelled in a straight line eventually you would come back to the same point in time and space, like the mobeus. But even that concept requires our perception of 4-D space and time to be embedded with a multi-dimensional universe, and then we are left with the same problem, where does the multi-dimensional universe end, unless of course it is all curved in and closed in some weird topological structure.
yeah, and it seems to me that space and time are the constants that define our universe and our reality... perhaps there are other universes beyond that consist of many more dimensions? or less? or perhaps you are right, maybe it is closed in and beyond this crazy instance there is absolute nothingness....
