Best fuckin psychadelic rock album, ever. its from pink floyd, with lead singer, Syd Barret, not gilmour/waters. im sure most people here have heard and listened to it, but anyone who hasn't..really should
Yeah, Piper and A Saucerful of Secrets are actually Pink Floyd's only two good records imo, and they are absolutely awesome! I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like It got a basket, a bell that rings, and things to make it look good I'd give it to you if I could But I borrowed it. >awesome Wish Syd Barret could have stayed with them for a couple more records before he went mad. Rest in peace Syd.
only two good records??? nahh.......... saucerful has its moments. patgod is a definite classic, for sure...... but I would say dark side and animals have to be ranked up there too....... but I also like obscured by clouds and the final cut....... so what am I supposed to say??
Maybe I was a little harsh by saying they only have two good records, still they're the only two I listen to. I've been there listening to Dark Side of the Moon and some other alot too, but nah.... Piper and Saucerful! Anyway, I don't like the newer material. It's like they got worse for each record. (I mean, not got worse ... more, less good)
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is great, in my opinion Pink Floyd was the best when they still had Syd Barrett with them.
Syd was a genius...it's a shame that he went crazy, although he did make some good music after his departure from Floyd...The Madcap Laughs is a classic imo and definately the songs Baby Lemonade and Dominoes Piper is one of my favorite Floyd albums...and one of my all-time faves as well
piper and saucerful are defintely the best, corporal clegg is awesome. atom <3 mother is another great one.
i was never a big fan of saucerful or AHM, but i like Jugband Blues from Saucerful and Fat Old Sun from AHM...
Their only two good albums? Jeez, man, that's harsh, although I'll argue that it was quite a different Floyd in that era. I generally don't even count em together! But the pre- Syd Barrett and post- syd barrett albums are genius, in their own right...I mean come on, have you listened to Meddle or Dark Side of the Moon or Obscured By Clouds et cetera?! Anyway, to the subject at hand (that statement just gave me a little bit of a heart attack, is all) Piper at the Gates of Dawn is a brilliant album.
I've always loved PATGOD. Last year I got the 3CD version, which has both mono and stereo versions of the album, as well as bonus tracks (including possibly the best Interstellar Overdrive)
pipers is great!! but every floyd album is, its a journey through there work as the group changed and evolved. but i have to agree i prefer the earlier albums on the whole and the albums with waters....i feel they did loose something when he left. and when syd left they did too but i dont think it was for the worst as such, just different.
''The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'' is one of the best albums of the 60's and one of favorite Pink Floyd albums of all time. It's defiantly in my top 5. ''Interstellar Overdrive'' and ''Bike'' are my favorite songs from the album, followed by ''The Gnome'', ''"Matilda Mother", "Flaming" and ''Astronomy Domine''. A fantastic album...too bad we didn't get to hear more from Syd.
Piper invokes a dreamlike world far removed from our own space and time. I love it's whimsical overtones and beautiful instrumentation and full sound. ever since i first heard this album, it has been my favorite. My favorite song on it is without a doubt "flaming".
I just listened to Piper for the first time last night. Fucking incredible. I don't know how it took so long for me to discover it.
