I recently quit weed after smoking every day for about a year or so and maybe two days after quitting i had the most intense dreams, maybe four or five each night for a few weeks. It has been maybe a couple of months now and the dreams aren't quite as vivid anymore.

Anyway, anyone else start to get extremely vivid dreams for the few weeks after quitting smoking weed?

THC inhibits REM (Rapid eye movement) Sleep,
which is a mode where vivid dreams occur.

    Cool, huh?

Yeah ad10, i've noticed this over the years when i've not been smoking weed ... but i'm not sure it's due to THC because it happens when you stop smoking tobacco too.

    liquid...
thc literally inhibits REM, like I Just said, this is scientifically proven..

as for tobacco...I couldn't tell ya, but I know this about ganja for a fact.

  5. I've been a chronic smoker for a while and can vouch for this.

When I stop, even if it's for a few days, my dreams are so much more intense and memorable. Where when I'd smoke everyday, I'd never have any memories of my dream states.

I've quit for a couple weeks now and every single night I play out the most elaborate stories I could ever imagine...sometimes it's absolutely terrifying.

When I blaze, especially before bed, man I don't dream at all :)

    It's kind of nice..

If you've ever used a Nicotine patch while you sleep, you'll have the most INSANE dreams.

don't you love that? it's almost like you're actually there. apparently thc coats the dream receptors or some funky shit so when you stop smoking they can work their magic more efficiently.

    dream receptors... uh sure.

I seem to have more vivid dreams when I go to sleep high. the most intense ones are after acid or mushroom trips though.

Sleep and dreams are part of keeping healthy psychologically.

I wonder if that could be considered an actual negative effect of smoking weed....as opposed to the...err...ah...non-actual negative effects.

It's too bad there's so much phony stuff out there about negative effects of weed that it's hard to get info on any real negative effects....it seems like there's got to be some, other than eating too much.

If there was a commercial for weed as a drug, they'd have to say very quickly at the end in a monotonous voice: "may cause excessive eating and dream loss."

a lot of people would say that the eating too much part is a positive effect of weed. then again, definition of too much would differ from an average kid to somebody on chemo or whatever.

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm sure it's a great medicine for people who need more of an appetite. Tons of people feel it's better than anything else available.
For some who aren't using it medically..or for that purpose medically, though, it can be a problem after the second bag of barbecue potato chips.
I guess it's kind of selfish to say....if it weren't for that it'd be a much better recreational drug....selfish because that would mean it couldn't help a lot of people who need it.
