how can you tell the purity of heroin?

    How can you tell the purity of heroin? Tar mostly, not the powder, before buying? Is it possible to estimate or tell something about smack before even buying? I ask because I spent $100 on some shit yesterday that was pretty bunk(didnt do shit really..a little, but should have done more)....any tips?

    Honestly, if you're copping off the streets, from not so reliable sources I'd say there is no way because one time it could be 5%, another time it could be 95%. With black tar I don't know like that but I know that if you shoot white or brown powduh, the less you have to cook it, the purer it is, and if you don't have to cook it, well... be careful. Thats all I could give you, maybe try erowid for some more answers?

    i was a tar user for years and years. and i also sold it. this was years ago but i have to tell you that a lot of people cut it with stuff like tootsie rolls - LOL
    i would taste it before you buy it - and make sure it isn't sweet.
    it should be very bitter.

    that is all we have here. the powder (if it is available at all) is either phentanol (sp?) (fake herion and can do bad things to you - ever see the frozen junkie?) or brown powder which is tar mixed with lactose (hopefully) or some other cut.
    so it is better to get tar here and then you can at least cut it yourself if you want to do that - LOL otherwise you don't know for sure what it has been cut with.
    china white is pretty much non-existant here but some people mistakenly call the phentanol china white and people do die from phentanol or worse - but not in a long time because we have so much tar available.
