dotted around my head, but they keep knotting loadsssss at the scalp, making the rest of my hair knotted with it. making it all just a clump of knottyneess.
would putting an elastic band closer to my scalp help them to stop clumping?

I have dreads throughout my hair too... it's going quite well. No bands needed, I just separate and give em a quick palm roll after a wash and they've done their thing without knotting the rest of my hair. I've had dreads before, and I feel that this is a nice balance for me by just having a few. It's funky & unique, I love it!

    Goodluck!

PS--Yes, a Peyote stitch or beads are good for separating.

There's an example of a peyote stitch. I've had one that my friend made me for my dreads a few years ago... I even named it "Easter" (because of it's gorgeous colors). They're easy to make, too!

palm rolling won't do anything... just rip them apart when they grow together.

I got a few dreads some days ago, and I'm very happy about them! I'm gonna have some more soon :)
My only "problem" is, when I want to wash my "normal" hair.... cause I don't want to mess up the new dreads, but they are getting in the way sometimes.
Any really good tips when u want to keep the dreads good looking and still wants to take care of the "normal" hair?

I don't understand, you guys have regular undreaded hair with a few dreads thrown in?

This is unheard of to me.
    Seems silly.

Yes I have 6 dreads in my "normal" hair, its a good alternative if u dont want the whole hair done..
I know many people, specially girls who has one or just a few more dreads :)

your "normal" hair will become jealous and try to have sex with the locks

For a little over a year I've had partial dreads... My hair is about 1/2 and 1/2... the back dreads were difficult to keep separate. Most of those ended up dreading... I have about 12 dreads--this isn't the best shot but you can at least see a few dreadies!

Ceebo, I bet you haven't ripped the ones at the back either? The palm rolling does help to separate a few hirs here and there, and if you are doing it every tine you wash that is why the ones you do palm roll are behaving. The ones at the back you mentioned, I'm guessing you haven't done anything to them at all to them. If you ripped them they would be separated lol.

    super hot.

whatever you do, keep doing it. A full set would be even better if you ask me. Just give up the brush.
