About 3ish months ago I decided to take the leap and get dreads.

I bought the kit from Dreadhead HQ with the wax, accelerator, peppa, shampoo and rubber bands.

My friends spend about 20 hours backcombing, waxxing and immense pain at first (I have thick hair), and I loved them.

Since this I have been re-waxxing and palm rolling. But everytime I washed my dreads (once a week) they seemed to be falling out more and more.

I sat and thought about it for a while and realised that waxxing was not making knots, only back combing was, so i started to back comb again.

Now, at the tip of the dread I had a fully dreaded dread =D

But, at the root the hair is almost normal.

Also the area between this running so thin the dreads are almost falling apart, as you can see in the photos =(

I've heard so many different things from people, I just wanted to know what you think I should do (as people with perfect dreads) =) And btw I work as a student in hospitals so not washing my hair for 5 years isn't an option.

    Many thanks in advance =D

Sorry about large photos, ill re-size them tomorrow.

They look absolutely fine. All you need is patience. Your hair hasnt dreaded at the root because they start to dread around 1 inch or so before the root. Quit the wax and all that shit. You CAN wash them just use Dr Bronners which you can get online like at ebay.

Mine fell apart like yours did. But after time they sorted themselves out. Yours will too.

Get the wax out! Wash as often as you need just use a residue free shampoo like Dr.Bronner's. You can run a search for Bronner's on this forum and fond plenty of helpful info about dilution and liquid vs bar soap, etc. Your hair looks great! Wanna see mine?

If mine could be saved, you're good LOL

I wash mine everyday with head and shoulders and they are still holding up and the roots are dreading automatically. it just takes time. quit backcombing and rolling and stuff. it's only hair, so too much jacking with it is gonna just make it weak.

they will be fine. stop backcombing though, i lost a lot of length because i did it more than once and the ends started falling off. don't mess with them too much is the moral of the story, lol!

Thanks for the replies everyone, And it does seem like the wax just makes it look good and doesnt actually help dread the hair.

Maybe ill post back in a few months and tell you how its all hanging.

    THanks again :D
