I've tripped on shrooms numerous times but it's starting to get kinda expensive to buy them. So I was thinking of picking my own. My question is, is it safe to assume that shrooms are "magic" if they grow from cow shit? I plan on bruising it and also making a spore print, but I was just wondering if cow shit is a good place to start. Thanks.

It depends where in the world you are. Some spieces grow on dung - in Britain, the most common psychedelic mushroom is the Liberty Cap - Psilocybe Semilenceata - and this is the time of year to find them - grow in grasslands - meadows, heaths etc.

    Here they are

When they've been up for a while, the caps dry to a yellowish colour.

Don't know much about American mushrooms - so far as I know, Liberty Caps only grow in some places in europe.

Mexican psilocybes do grow on dung I believe.

You can find P. cubensis in GA in the late summer. Too late (except for the occasional stray FOR '05).

That particular variety is extremely easy to identify.

    Sorry-got to go

sometime the shrooms grow on the dung directly but that is rae. they are usually around the dung or just in random spots. The soil is usually enriched with the stuff it needs. so look close to branches. around dung. If your looking for cubensis look for the blue ring under the gils.

Assuming that a mushroom is psychoactive because it's growing on shit is really dumb.
    Don't do it.

The only shrooms that I really know how to identify are Liberty Caps as they're the most common ones here in the UK.
