As of a couple months ago, I began living in a 1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia.
I got a good deal on it. It needs a little bit of work but runs well.

I am pondering ways of making money while being somewhat nomadic.

I'm initially making a trip to Southern Utah to do an extended vision quest.
If I can make some money when I get back I'm thinking about heading to Mexico for the winter .. maybe WOOFing it at different farms.

I love having a home on wheels... I have everything I own contained in the VW.
Would only sell it if I find the right community to be a part of..

    Any questions are welcome...
I'll take pictures of the van later.

    Many blessings!

    clean windshields truck stops
    change flats for people
arts and crafts to sell at swap meets
    do temp labor

and you can also read the sticky in the Camping/Living abroad forum

Sweet photos. I swear between you and TwoDogs threads I would love to spend at least a few months out that way taking it all. Bring a pile of books, something I sorely neglect since the internet :/ and just chill.

If you don't mind me asking, whats your vision quest all about? I know it's a personal thing, so feel free to just say "soul searching" haha

I have a question...What's the maintenance like on Vanagons? I am VERY close to buying a '77 and was just wondering if they are expensive to keep up. The one i'm looking at is copletely restored, but I wanted to know if you had any advice.

If the vanagon is in good condition/restored and you don't push it too hard it should be good. They CAN be expensive to maintain, just because of some of the parts. Buy they are generally easy to fix until the late 80's Vanagons.
    Blessings!

Nice, I too just bought an 84 westy... I'll be picking it up in a coupla weeks. It's in really decent mechanical shape. I'm heading out for at least the summer. I've lived on the road before/know what to expect at least. I'm getting a good bit of cash stocked up for this venture tho as I'm taking my two children w/ me and need a lil' bit for financial security w/ them on the road w/ me... I'm also stocking up on crafts/art/stones/glass made by me/friends before I head out. Hopefully will do some food/craft vending at some festies...also hoping ot rent my current place out to help off set some of the gas expense....
Good luck to you and your ventures!
The only thing that intimidates me is vw mechanics... Mine has had a lot of restoration work done on it/ i'm hoping for the best...
If you ever check out fullmoonbusclub online they have a great vw community/resources (like vanagon rescue site, where you type in your address if you need help/it will come up with a list of folks nearby/what they can offer you i.e. tools/parking space/mechanical knowledge)
