this is an excellent phrase.
it doesn't really mean much on its own.
'does to me'.

but it can induce hysteria if you say it lots of times and you have had a weird german teacher in the past and a companion with which to say it.

if you'd like it to mean something, say 'tut mir leid'.
=I'm sorry.

this is one of the only german phrases I actually remember.
took it in like 8th grade for a semester or something.
stuck with french until senior year.

a friend and I actually got in trouble for saying tut mir too many times in the class. and drawing pictures of weird people saying tut mir and giving them to the teacher.
the instructor got all hysterical like 'that doesn't mean anything!!!?!?" and angry.

 

Understandable. Cause you don't appreciate the fine German language

continued with french, though, until senior year.

my uncle speaks german fluently. and I'm hoping to keep learning eventually.
