Does ANYONE know an easy way to do it? I think I may be doing it wrong.

I've been macremeying with hemp, and I take 2 cords, the same length, put them togeher, then fold it over and tie it to make 4 peices of string.

Then, I fold the left over the 3 cords, then pull the right across the left and the middle ones, then, I pull it through the loop and it makes a knot.

    Was that confusing???

i would just start with 3 strands..... thats it
and tie a knot around the middle strand. google some macreme, they would probably have some visuals for you. good luck

Yup, Google macrame and you will find anything you ever wanted to know! Which reminds me, I need some new plant hangers :)

if I can find a scanner, I'll try to send them your way :]

    Macrame Tutorial:

You'll need to get started with making square knots (also known as full knots) for a flat bracelet or necklace. A 'granny' knot is how you get them to do the DNA spiral effect...it's actually also known as the 'half knot' because it's only half the steps of a 'full knot'.

I've made a tutorial with color-coded hemp strands so that it is easy to see:

There is also the 'larks head knot' which you use to attach your hemp to a keyring. Attaching it to a keyring and tying the keyring to a table or chair (or even holding it on your toe, like I used to do) will keep both your hands free to tie the knots.

Once you have the hang of it, here is a simple project: How to Make a Hemp Necklace

Wow! That is great Alluna!!!:) Another way when you master that to learn more is to go to used bookstores and check out their old pattern books. You can get hippy era patterns quite cheaply. Or try the library. Or if you are lucky with a teeny more money and haven't found what you want online(and there is lots) try the little kits and save all the instructions from them. It doesn't take long to have your own little library.

I wish I could find a hemp ring pattern online-that is my quest
